Stead was my option if we hadn't signed Billy.

SOD hasn't usually gone for 2 up front so I'm not sure, especially with Brooker apparently on the way back, are we going to be able to keep everyone happy?

billy for the running past there back four and stead is about a foot taller than most of our squad as far as brooker from what we saw at the WBA game he was slow and lacking touch, ok he may have not played for near two years but can we really afford to bring him on in the last 15 mins of every game till he gets match fitness

we need another striker to help billy and Hayter. Fairhurst is lacking experience at this level and may chip in with a couple but its not really enough if we are going to push for promotion to the prem league

get him signed

I seem to remeber a rumour of interest last season was it during the Jan window? Think he would be a good aquisition if his wages aren't ridiculous.

Jesus, the bloke has, as you rightly say, been out for 2 years and after 45 minutes against Havant and Waterlooville, you expect him to run circles around a premiership defence? I'd much prefer us spend the wages on an area that needs some work (i.e. CB). Brooker will be the striker to help Billy and Hayter... just give him a few weeks.

I think stead would be a great signing, another 1 who's lost his way like billy playing 4 long ball merchants. He would thrive on the service here. As for brooker people are easy to jump to his defence but I for 1 have no confidence in him lasting 90mins let alone a season I know the bloke deserves a break but the season starts 4 real next sat n we need bodies we can rely on to do the job

Yet again I seem to be in a minority of one. \" Cow, expensive, Banjo and arse\" spring to mind whenever I hear the name John Stead. I wouldn't have him if he paid us 10 grand a week.

he's a sean type of player, very good technically, a step up in quality from what we have at the mo.(apart from the no.10)
but back in jan, when we had a sniff or his agent suggested we would be good for him, his wages were
far to high.

Let them become unemployed if they are that greedy, we are not desperate for players like him, we can easily survive on what we have.

I can't agree with you on this one Bob. Stead is a cracking player and absolutely took us to pieces when he played for Huddersfield. He's had a bit of a mixed time at some clubs since then but would fit in brilliantly with us. He's tall, athletic and technically very good and would add something to our team.

He was also the one I'd have liked us to sign if we couldn't get Billy. I'm not sure if having both of them would be a bridge too far in terms of wages. Looking at it from the current perspective i.e. if we could get a striker then you look at someone that would be an ideal partner for Sharp - Keogh would have to top that list if at all possible.

I agree that Stead could do a great job for us with the way we play and have always thought he looked a decent finisher, but his wages were widely reported to be in the region of 20k per week last Jan when we were linked - and then quickly un-linked!

The poor mite eh, not bad for an Ipswich reserve!
