fcuk me, give him a chance. We're three games in and he's had one bad performance.
Pace we cannot change, agreed.Positioning, decision making, timing is something that can be moulded. Without naming names, there have been an abundance of world class defenders with little pace, but they more than made up for this with a high degree of accuracy on the other factors. From what I have seen he seems to have decent pace in making the forward runs over the straight mile. As for defensive duties, it's always stacked in favour of nippy forwards to run at any defender and ghost past him, if he's square on. The only thing that seems to be the trouble is the first 5 yards for any defender, and in the main that is more down to reading the game and tracking player movement IMO. Once he sorts this, (and bear in mind he's a few games in and playing in a low on confidence defence) he'll be fine and a good asset. That first 5 yards or decision making is something the whole defence seem unsure of at this moment (added to that is they seem unsure of what their colleagues are doing or not going to do), yet it was something that Mills/Shack/Robbo/JOC usually got right
by none other than John Ryan himself:\"Gareth Roberts got a great deal at Derby and we couldn't compete, fair play to him. However, we've got George Friend in, who I believe, is a better left back as he's bigger and younger...\"Mr Ryan, I am bigger and younger than Gareth Roberts, and I could have put in a more competent performance than what I saw from our 'Friend' yesterday.Slow in his head and on the floor. How many of the passes sprayed out to him on the touchline did he either miss or just let fly out of play? Mustapha looked miles better when he came on! Also there is no way Robbo would have let Burke past him for Cardiff's second, G.R. did a fantastic job on the lad last season.Boy, does George have it all to do to convince me and many others I presume.
Is anyone running a book on which defender gets it in the neck next weekend? Last week is was Martis, this week it's the boy George. Who's next? Locky, Jim, or Mustapha????
I am in the VERY concerned camp as well with this lad,
A bit harsh. As harsh as the Derby fans blaming Gareth Roberts for gifting Cardiff the game last week. To be fair to JR he pointed out Gareth was 32 and George Friend 24 (?) and about 5 inches taller which everyone would agree we need. I went into Canton Rugby club before the game and they had Coventry Derby on. Would much sooner stick with what weve got even after 4 o.
