O'Driscoll and Ryan contradicting each other?
« on September 02, 2010, 10:17:04 pm by Red Rover »
Right, I'm not having a go at the men at the top of Doncaster Rovers in the slightest, as they pulled off coup of the century to bring Billy to the Rovers...

...but am I right in thinking John Ryan was saying a meer 3 months ago that Doncaster Rovers had the biggest transfer kitty in their history?

Ok so we signed Billy Sharp, which was awesome and lets face it, we would have been happy with just signing him with all our money. However, there are some very strong backed up rumours that the KM2 paid for them out of there pocket. Which begs the question what happened to the transfer kitty? Ok, we have renewed the likes of Hayter and Osters contracts, and signed Friend, Thomas and Payne, but surely they weren't demanding as much money as Roberts, and with getting rid of Heffernan and Guy, that subsidised there transfers?

Anyway, that isn't the issue. The issue is O'Driscoll's comments like \"We just don't have the funds - even for a loan signing.\" And asked about Alan Gow he said \"As I've already said, they were far too expensive for the likes of us because we don't have that kind of money.\"

Now, I don't have a problem with us having no money coz we are a small fish in a big pond, but why did John Ryan come out with that kind of statement at the beginning of the summer?

Wrong !

It is reiterated in the Free Press article again today.

I heard the interview on the radio and the word 'transfer' was never used and he was quite careful the way he said it.

Many people of jumped on this and interpreted this as meaning a transfer budget.

See previous threads.

This has been done to death on here recently. I think the \"biggest budget in history\" comment was not specific to the transfer budget, it included the whole budget for the playing staff and coaching staff, including wages, add on clauses and the whole lot.

We have obviously either spent all the money, or the board have decided to reign it in a bit after the signing of Sharp. If we have spent all the money, you have to question it really - yes Sharp will be on big money, but I don't think the other new signings will be on massive money. Must mean that they are paying the likes of Locky and Wilson (who renewed their contracts in the summer) much more than what they are worth.
