McIndoe
« on December 20, 2010, 12:25:07 pm by ptaylor-red »
Ex-Rovers winger Michael McIndoe is to be given a free transfer in January, according to reports from Coventry's local newspapers. McIndoe's contract with Coventry City is due to expire at the end of the season, with the Scot currently out on loan at MK Dons after he found himself out of the first team at Coventry this season.
It now seems that Coventry boss Aidy Boothroyd has decided to grant the Scotland B international a free transfer to enable him to get fixed up with a new club as soon as possible, with little prospect of him being recalled into the Coventry team.
McIndoe played 117 league games for Doncaster Rovers between 2003 and 2006, and has since played for Derby County, Wolves, Bristol City, Coventry City and MK Dons.

He went to Derby on loan before he went to Barnsley, if my memory serves me right

He had a short loan spell at Derby while he was still with us.

I have to admit im not normally one who likes to go back to old players but on a free he would offer us something different on low cost.I would certainly consider it.!!!

If he did, how do you think he'd fit in? what would he have to offer?

The way I see it, he left us because he wanted to play at a higher level, fair enough. However he has never settled anywhere since he left us and he is clearly not going to get picked up by any prem, or even most championship clubs, he is playing on loan in league one at the minute. Youth isn't on his side anymore either.

If we come calling I think he'll be stupid to turn us down, we are now a good championship club with a possibility with a bit of luck of making a play off push.

The big question is what does SOD think of him? Would he fit in? Is he too much of a head down run down the wing kind of player?

To be honest, he was great for us, but I'm not sure what he would add now, and would much prefer wages for a defender.

What, you mean like John Oster who has always been a winger.  If McIndoe had never played for us he'd be a typical SOD player.  A bit wayward at previous clubs, rejected from clubs higher/same level and playing in a position that we don't use but has the intelligence to be moulded into playing elsewhere...

Agreed, if the price is right he'd certainly improve our squad in terms of both quality and versatility. Given the position he used to play at Yeovil and his work-rate I'd also stick my neck out and say he wouldn't make a bad left back...

I think you'd be about right there - and on a loan deal he could be shipped back to Coventry if his \"Billy Big b*llocks\" attitude upset the dressing room.

I'd definitely give him a month on loan, see where it leads.....

I think the difference with Oster and Mcindoe is that Oster was prepared to play anywhere in Midfield where as Mcindoes see`s himself as a left winger only!

You could be right Filo, although maybe the combination of losing his pace and having to ply his trade in league 1 might alter his position from eighteen months ago.  Knowing McIndoe though his arrogance might blind him to it and he'll end up at MK Dongs with Lewis!

Not sure what McIndoe would bring that Martin Woods doesn't bring now in midfield, but could certainly fit in as a left wingback/fullback.

I think its a case of nostalgia ruling your head on this one. He was a great player for us but can he still hack it at this level? I'm not sure.

On the question of what he'd bring, over Woods? He's fit, as apposed to not fit, in Woods case, so he'd command a position, either in the 1st team or on the bench, which, presently Woodsy seems unable to do. Therefore, he'd be a useful addition to the squad, but whether its the right sort of appointment to improve us, again, I'm not sure.

I find it hard to believe that we are having a discussion over McIndoe - he left us because he thought he was better than us - we are now better than him. Do I want him back - no, I do not believe he will offer anything to the team, and may in fact be a disruptive influence. But should he come back, and I hope he doesn't, then I will cheer him as I do all Rovers players.

As already said, McIndoe thought he was bigger than the club. He wasn't missed that much when he went and I don't believe JR would sanction a retrograde signing.

Quite frankly I think McIndoe would be too much of a disruptive influence on the squad.
