Lowest in the Championship today by some margin as well.

And today's performance is hardly going to have people rushing back, is it?

At least as it's Barnsley up next, we should be guaranteed a decent turn out.

I've been watching Rovers on and off since 1964, today my family organised a surprise visit for my 60th birthday to the match, arrived in a stretch limo, stadium tour, lunch the full package.
My wife aint a footy fan. my daughter, her partner and my grandaughter were there for the first time, everything was superb apart from the performance and the result.
I think its the worst weve played at home for a long time,my family realise we had an off day but commented it did nothing to attract them back.
Any way I will back in the South stand for the next game cheering the lads on, but we cannot afford too many more performances like todays.

Of course it could have been much worse had the Rovers marketing team had not come to the rescue and knocked out all those e-mails on the Thursday and Friday before the game, not forgetting the big splash in the Free Press !

The attendance reflected the performance, crap, to be honest though, our merketing scheme is w**k, whoever is in charge of promoting Donny Rovers should be ashamed, how much is it for a full page advert int free press? I'm sure Rovers could afford it, no ad's on trax, no ads on official site, no e-mails till a couple er days before, no flyers, nothing! just not good enough!

Blessing in disguise that hardly anybody took advantage of the ticket offer. The floating fans wouldn't be likely to be rushing back after that display.

Fundamentally we have had a long term problem with the marketing of the club.  Doncaster has the best football team I have ever seen in 37 years going to games, yet the apathy from the club and the support it gets from the Council itself, is shocking.

Once again.... I would refer anyone interested in how Rovers could be marketed to the marketing and PR plan done by supports some 5-6 years go now.  There were, and are, some excellent ideas in that for promoting Rovers in the media, around the town, and so on.

Until there's a major clear out of those simply picking up a pay packet, and getting a professional marketing and communications department in place, there will not be crows flocking to Rovers, sadly. We are trying to claw back too many lost fans or convert non-fans and that requires more than an ad in the what's on section of the Free Press.

Right people for the right jobs please JR.  If Rovers have tried everything in the plan and still there's no improvement... then we do have a serous problem.  Otherwise, comments like \"where are you fans\" on FB last weekend just piss people off.

Speaking from experience...  It needs to be a combination of initiatives... And it needs to be sustained. That is the key.

Why use adverts and marketing? Why not use a good PR campaign to gain support for an event. Lets face it, given all the stick that football clubs get, any good PR is welcome for most clubs.

Also, adverts cost money and are mainly ineffective. An article (PR story) in the Free Press from Doncaster Rovers that promotes the club would be more effective as people would get to read about it fully, as opposed to a bog standard quarter-page advert with only a few words on it.

If anyone can be bothered, have a look on Google and search for \"Dagenham against racism\". Not only did that PR campaign promote a specific message (that the club is against racism), but it also brought them a lot of good publicity within their local community. The fact they lowered prices for a game just helped to bring the crowds in to support the event as well. Another reason this was popular for Dagenham was because they are in an area where the BNP is popular. And we all know what the general consensus is of the BNP...

Oh, and one last thing. Dagenham & Redbridge didn't have to spend a penny on adverts too! All their success came from an effective PR campaign.

But of course, I know nothing do I!

Surely with all your knowledge of media you really can't think that PR is FREE can you Rigo?
A good public relations company costs money. In fact almost if not more than advertising.
To get good FREE pr you need a pr company with good contacts.
Good contacts from a good pr company costs money. A great deal of money.
I am surprised you don't know that.
But then maybe as you rightly say \"You don't know nothing do you\"

The floating fans or as I like to call them GLORY HUNTERS will not be back until we are in play off positions or last rounds of the FA Cup.

Why did 3k more fans turn out for Swansea rather than yesterday? Yes price was a fiver more, advertising/marketing a little less but I cant help but wonder if it was the attitude of people like you that sways it.

I think that a major part of the Swansea offer being so succesful was because the fans became involved on their own initative with the donnybob challenge and created a positive atmosphere and vibe (similar to the last rounds of the cup etc) - but since that time there has been nothing but negativity on the board. O'Driscoll leaving for Sheff U, their last minute equaliser in that game, the pitch covers, we are signing Matt Kilgallon - ooops no we're not and then the negativity this past week over the marketing. What would any floating fan who attended Swansea and wanted to find out more about Rovers find - more reasons not to come rather than a happy vibrant club that is going forward. The most important people in the marketing department at Doncaster Rovers are US.

You're right however, I can't help but get back to the same thing.

If you take all the pricing issues out of the equation, and assume that the prices were more affordable for EVERY game, taking out Cat A, B and Cat 1,2 & 3, and 2 tiers of pricing for kids, then we will have a simpler proposition.

The promoting of matches to floaters becomes much easier and we don't need to firefight and have poster/flyer campaigns etc.
