Agree with that at this moment in time. The left and right back may come under pressure before those 2 CH's.

RB Jimmy O'Connor
RCB Matt Mills
LCB Jason Shackell
LB Gareth Roberts

Roberts is the only one I had to pause for thought over. James Chambers as third choice full back, don't think Mills or Dumbuya have come near those three yet.

I'd agree with those choices, but I dare say you're talking about the Chambers of the last two seasons, not this one. He seems to have lost something, although I realise he hasn't really been fit. On what I've seen this season, Dumbuya would be ahead of him as reserve full-back.

As for cover for the centre-backs, the Shelton Martis we had on loan two seasons ago would be good, rather than the one we signed last season.

Have to agree with

RB - O'Connor
CB - M Mills
CB - Shackell
LB - Roberts

Those two centre backs would make a great pairing and I think that back four would not be out of place in the Premier League.  Only one which may struggle at the higher level would be Gaz Roberts in my opinion.

How can anyone not have Matt Mills? He was our best player, nevermind defender.

Chambers, JOC, Shackell, Roberts is the best back 4 combination that played together.
But the best back 4 defenders in our three years in the championship.
Would be JOC, Mills, Shackell, Roberts

Pity the club could not afford the finances to have kept them together. Only one still at the club.

what i find fascinating about the combinations above is that there doesnt seem to be a consencus as to what Jimmy O'Connor's best position is. Is he the best right back we have had, (some people think Chambers is the best) and is he one of the two best centre halves (again some people think that it was Shackell and Mills) - something else to argue about/discuss!!

For me he's a right back, and one of the best outside the premiership. When we think back to some of his best performances in that position he really was a class above. He combined the defensive solidity he shows at CB and still got comfortably involved with the midfield passing. Whilst he's been a revelation at CB (where I accept he started his career there too), I really hope we haven't \"damaged\" him as a full back.

For me the best back 4 would be

JOC

Mills
Shackell

G Roberts

On Roberts, whilst I think Mills could eclipse him given time, I think he was another complete full back in terms of both attacking and defending.

As has been mentioned in other threads, I bet if we compiled the best 11/18 players we've had at this level we'd be looking at a promotion winning team.

There's your team then

GK Sullivan
RB O'Connor
CB Mills
CB Shackell
LB Roberts
DM Stock
CM Oster
CM Wellens
CM Coppinger
ST Hayter
ST Sharp

I reckon that would do pretty well at this level, pity that its the defence that we've lost the majority players from.

Thatd do a job for sure.

No weakness at all.

Wellens, Stock, Oster, Copps - pass you to death

What was the QPR at home 2-0 line up ?

Chambers was in there and in his \"pomp\".

Hayter vs JET would be a horses for courses debate but I wouldn't disagree with that.

No, Wellens and Oster weren't here together - that game was the second season at this level so Wellens had left the summer before. I've got the 2 minute clip on my ipod and watch it regularly and Shiels was very prominent in the move as well as Gillett. Not sure if Stock even played that day as it was Fortune involved in the short corner for the first goal.

That was certainly during Chambo's best spell for sure.

No, stock was on commentary duty, and joined in with the crowd cheering!, that is the last time I remember rovers passing it around for fun, Scunthorpe away this season in the second half ,came close though. I think gillet was and is, instrumental to our team, he is the one I can't wait to have back, partner him with stock( not sure if that has happened yet) and watch the plaudits come in.
