I thought Mackay was a t**t. f**ked up big style with a half-decent squad that the took to the brink of the Conference. Then when he left, told the world* how he'd left us a legacy of a superb Junior team, when in fact it was Steve Beaglehole who'd done all that work.

* - Clarification: \"world\" here, means \"Donny Free Press\"

Nice to see that someone agrees 100% with my assessment of Dave Mackay. I thought Joe Kinnear was rubbish as well but he did a good job with Wimbledon.

When Mackay became Birmingham City manager I recall telling a Bluenose that he (Mackay) was useless but the Bluenose thought it was just sour grapes and regaled me with the usual \"he won the title with Derby\" nonsense. Within six months he was calling for Mackay's head. We all know that Mackay won the title with Brian Clough's team. That lot didn't need managing- just pointing in the right direction and letting them get on with it.

They were having a debate on BladesMad a couple of weeks ago about whether Henderson was a) the worst centre forward and b) the biggest tosspot they'd ever had.

Consensus seemed to be a) No, but not far off and b) quite possibly.

That said, as Jonathan says, we do need some physicality. Now, where have I heard that before?

To be fair to Henderson he's a good player and IMO would do well here, just cost would be the issue. When were they saying all this on their forum because on Football Heaven towards the end of the season they were praising him as if he was GOD when he scored about 6 goals in 3 games to give them the slightest of chances of survival.

Football fans are just fickle. I don't think its a coincidence that this season when Sheff United have failed badly, he's been injured for most of the season? He doesn't score 20-25 a season, no, but he does have a, what seems, positive effect on the team and sometimes thats more important.

Having said all this it's going to be irellevant anyway as we'll never afford him even if he is on our radar.

I think SO'D tends to stick to a formula, and that includes a big rough centre forward (who will often find himself on the wing). McCammon, Elliot (oddly) and Brooker have all filled that role before, and I believe we've suffered as a result of Brookers long term absence. I'd be very surprised if we didn't sign a player of this ilk as his replacement.

Chris Brown or Henderson both fit the bill for me.

Any talk of Darius coming to Rovers is a complete waste of time. I know him pretty well and he won't be coming here, mainly because we cant afford his wages! I doubt he'll be at Sheff Utd next season tho.

Gets forgotten but not by Steve Fletcher.

I'd have Darius Henderson here if we could afford him, but he would be out of our price range wouldn't he?

I'd have thought SO'D would be more likely to plan another raid on Bournemouth and nick some of their best players, especially after the way they performed in the two play-off games.

He actually scored 2 goals (both in the same match) in 8-9 appearances. The BladesMad forum went into meltdown about him when he came back from injury against Watford and got himself sent off within about 20 minutes for two senseless fouls and they lost 3-0.

I big no for me.

Yes he's a donny lad and a big bugger but my blades friends say he just doesnt have a footballing brain.

Give me Chris Brown at PNE anyday of the week.  Would be cheaper than Henderson too

He looks like a prospect striker, but looks a very similar player to Fairhurst? Would he fit in with SODs plans? I'm not sure he would?

I'm with you CR, it would be great to see Chris Brown back at Rovers on a permanent basis, a much better footballer than Henderson, quicker and with a better attitude, he would collect half the number of yellows and reds than Henderson would, that is important when you have a small squad. That is why we need to have a good discipline record, it is hard enough coping with injuries.

Chris Brown is totally different gravy to Henderson. Anyone who remembers his long loan spell with us will know why.

If you are looking for an out and out striker, he's not your man. If you are looking for a brute to knock centre halves about he's not your man.

If you are looking for an intelligent, strong footballer that links play and can use left, right and head in equal measures, has great touch and vision then he's your man.

Now, I think he and Billy could play in the same team. Chris Brown would do the Hayter role very, very well I think.

Am I right in saying that he couldn't get into a very poor PNE side this season?

Looking around some of our key players, Stock couldn't get in the Preston team, Gillet couldn't get in the Southampton team in the league below, Sharp couldn't get in a Sheffield United team that was subsequently relegated.

I wouldn't always go with the judgements of other clubs, some players need a move.

Is that the Leo Fortune West who won 5 promotions in his career and helped us to consolidate in the top half of Tier 3 at a time when our highest ever transfer fee paid was less than £200k?

I thought so.

So, in summary, Leo Fortune-West is the Ark of the Covenant.

Wouldn't say he was that valuable but definitely had a 50p-piece head.

Well I see him most Thursday nights playing 5-a-side and I can tell you he is still a lean, mean machine, fit as anything, and he scored a hat-trick last night quicker that against Orient. Mind you he was only 6 yards out each time and on his left foot...but what a left foot !!

Shall I have a word to see if he's available ?

I'm not sure on Brown TBH, I thought he looked great as a kid on loan with us, but as he's carried his career on his pace seems to have gone and his weight seems to have ballooned. Yeah he still holds the ball up well and brings other people into play but I ain't as convinced, that he's really that good as he looked, as I was when he was here! Sorry!

Wouldn't say no to him being a squad member mind!
