Nelle Vue in 1935.

I love this pic of the original Donny airport -- or the Aerodrome, as we knew it in the ancient times. Many on this thread will fondly recall standing on the Rosso end, and also will recall the hangar which was just behind the old pop side.

Regarding Nelle Vue, note the pop side cover that predated the pop side stand (1939-1986) that most of us greybeards recall. You can also see the extension to the southern section (in white) of the main stand to accommodate the larger crowds expected for our return to D2 in the 1935/36 season.

Astley, Lancs, Intake from 4, DeeDah University, Leicster, Bracknell, now Wokingham, Berks.

Owe my lifelong allegiance to the Rovers to a Huddersfield Town fan!

Appointed official jinx to the club based on us only getting 4 points from the 14 league games I've been to this season, mind you 2 of those were against QPR, at least we won't have that next season, will we..........

I'm (nervously) confident you can break that Jinx at the start of next year though BR. Make sure you break it as close to the start of the season as possible, cos I'm buggered if we have to go through an end to the season as we have this year.
In fact, can't you go to all the pre-season game. We're BOUND to win one of them.

If that fails and nothing has improved after 3 games I think a BR Exorcism may be required. Sadly that involves strapping you up, drenching you in Holy Fluid, and inserting a large Crucifix directly into you soul/rectum.

(Just your typical Wednesday night then)

Thanks for that pic - never seen it before. Always used to stand at the Rosso end. You could watch Doncaster United from the top if the Rovers game was boring!

Now live near Hull. There's a few Rovers fans scattered around this way too. :scarf:

Welcome aboard from me as well Viking87.

I'm in Bradford not that far from Idler I think.

Know one or two other fans from my locality, Neil Grainger for one (Hi Neil)

Ray (aka Bradford Exile)

Hi Ray

I'm in China at the moment so any fans going to Boro tomorrow - please give our boys a cheer from me.

Great to hear from all our fellow fans in exile - especially those who go to such great lengths to get to as many games as they can.

Like Highland Rover, another nomad. Born in Hampshire, brought up in Leeds, Southport and Preston before moving to Hatfield at the age of 5. Lived in Hatfield 1966-1978, started watching Rovers in 1969 (not much interest in football before then- as a five year old I went swimming when the 1966 World Cup Final was on! ) Left Hatfield in 1978 and settled in Solihull (near Birmingham) where I've lived ever since.
Once a Rover, always a Rover!

I've hardly led a nomadic existence, still working a couple of miles from where I was born at Weston hospital, Balby.

Lived in Victoria street (where the town high rise flats now stand) for my first eleven years. Then moved to Wheatley hills until my mid twenties. Now been at Bentley for several years following marriage.

Quite a claustrophobic existence all things considered.

Born in Market Harborough in Leics (1977, to a Yorkshire family in exile, mostly Rotherham and Wednesday fans) and moved up to Retford when I was 6. Started watching the Rovers in my early teens, and through my University years in Nottingham, Rovers were relegated to Non-League in my final year. Back to Retford for a couple of years before moving to Doncaster and buying my first house in Woodfield Plantation, Balby. Moved to Lichfield in Staffs 2 and a half years ago.

Born in 31 Smith Square, Balby. Moved to Thorne when I was 5 then onto Scunthorpe when I was 7. Did a degree in Portsmouth for three years and then eventually moved to Sheffield teaching for four years. Then with relationships demands moved up towards York, and ended up in a cottage in Barmby Moor for the last 25 years. I thought I was the only Rovers fan in the village until the playoff final against Leeds when an old boy turned up on our bus. Seems like he used to watch Rovers in the 50s as a kid. He only goes occasionally still. My glass in the pub is famous though, with the badge on, and of course a white cottage has to have a red door!

My grandparents lived in Smith Square until the 70s. A high number I think. The neighbours were a large family, the Cockburns or Colburns.
I think George Stokes who was in the year above me at Oswin Ave. lived on there as well.

Idler

Of an older (and much better of course!) vintage Idler, born in the 50's as the Police song goes. We left Donny in 1962 and spent the coldest winter of my life in a council house in Moorends until my Dad got a swap over to one in Scunny where he worked on the steelworks.

I'm another Berkshire Rover, via Balby and Sprotbrough.

Bracknell to be exact ,a cultural wasteland so i really feel at home. Next year will be my first full season away from Doncaster. I'm going to try and make most of the away (home for me) games next year Palace, West Ham, watford, Reading,Brighton, Portsmouth & Southampton. Is there such a thing as a mebership card which can get me away match tickets?

My route's Balby, Armthorpe, Balby, Darlington, Ripponden and now down in Ravenshead Notts near shitty Mansfield!

Have really rose tinted view of Donny being away but realise when i do visit town other than for matches that its pretty much as bad up there as it is here!!

I left Stainy in 1966 just after we won the world cup and moved to college in Kent. I started supporting Donny at the age of five and remember King Alicks return along with 28000 supporters at Belle View. I worked in London for 30 years and retired to Chesham in Bucks. Believe or not I am a season ticket holder this season but like most supporters that live over 160 miles from Donny will get to more away games than home ones. Its in the blood.
