Rovers miss out on signing Paul Hayes
« on June 14, 2011, 05:08:09 pm by Jonathan »
See link http://www.newsshopper.co.uk/sport/football/charlton/9083493.Striker_to_snub_Doncaster_and_Scunthorpe_to_join_Addicks/

Can't say I'll lose any sleep over that one.

In the meantime, our wait for our first successful deal(s?) of the summer continues.....

I heard about a week ago that we are after an out-of-contract experienced centre half who played for a club not too far away from here last season.

If we do sign the player, I think a few people would be critical to say the last.

Well if thats the calibre of players we are going to be signing this closed season, then I think we will be having more of the same as last season's second half struggle.  :( :( :headbang:

Just remind me which of the players that got us to a play off position at Christmas have we lost?

Did anyone  shed any tears over the players released?

If we signed 2 or 3 players who were seen as real first eleven plus the same number of squad players I would see that as putting us in a stronger position than this time last year.

IF and only IF we have the same set of injuries as wr had last season should there be any repetition, and no team whoever they are would have done much better.

What happened to the clear out of players who had been here too long and weren't putting a shift in?

We have still got too much dead wood at the club.

I repeat \"IF\" all the players we sign this summer are same quality as Hayes I believe we will continue to struggle(I did not say they will),But he is only one,and maybe we have some better targets also, which will ease my knee jerk reaction worries to this news ;)

I'm not naming the player and I won't confirm or deny it if anyone mentions him.

If you want any clues as to who it is, then he has two legs and is a professional footballer.

Why mention it then if your not going to tell us?

Well if I hadn't said anything, some people would moan and say nothing is happening and we're just going to sign the players on the scrapheap about a week before the season starts.

I heard we were after X player at the start of last week. Not heard anything since. It may be dead in the water by now, it may not, but at least we're out there on the prowl for new players.

Don't you have a proven track record of knowing nothing?

Apologies if I have confused you with another poster that made a load of bold (and ultimately incorrect) statements about transfers last summer.

Would his initials be T.S. by any chance? I thought it was common knowledge. As for Hayes, I reckon we have had a lucky escape.

Spurr is neither a centre half nor is he out of contract. He is however, it seems, available.

David Mirfin on the other hand...

Cant be the player Kenny_S is reffering to - who would be critical of us signing Mirfin? Nah its got to be some of that rubbish from Sheff U dont they want to unload their centre halves?

Good point, although I'm pretty sure some people on here would find something to moan about if we signed Mirfin.

Richard Naylor or Richard Hinds would both probably fit the original description.

Matt Mills is available from Reading. £4 million and £15,000 a week should do.

Jack Ashurst would be cheaper...

It's about time he made a comeback.

p.s. for the record, Hayes is toss.
Charltons loss is our gain.

If it's Neill Collins who Kenny_Senior is on about, I'll be the first to say \"couldn't we have just kept Wayne Thomas instead?\"

As for Paul Hayes.... we dodged a bullet there!!
