Birmingham want £5.4 Million compensation (under his contract) for Alex McLeish.

Villa state he is a free agent, Brum are stating he is a Birmingham City employee under contract.

Who is right?

Obviously without knowing any of the contractual details, I'd reckon Birmingham are right - he tendered his resignation, they refused to accept, therefore he is still under contract.

I'd expect to eventiually go for 2 or 3 million compo.

According to Sky Sports, under his contract the compensation would have dropped to £3 million had Mcleish and Villa waited untill 1st July.

Its a hard one by the look of it, I think the fact that it's the clubs that hate each other more than any other club makes it even worse...

I would hope there would be some sort of compensation, it'll be a small step towards doing things properly instead of players ans now managers doing what they want when they want and raking the game dry of the cash in the process. Imagine skipping from job to job at a whim and demanding more money and kickbacks in the process without anyone cottening on that you're a complete and utter tool!
I hope birmingham get some money from this....but the problem is if they do, it'll just end up in a moronic 19 year olds pocket and get spent on a white range rover.

The business of football is getting really, really stupid and we're the ones paying for it and putting up with it by never blaming the players. or the clubs, or the FA/FIFA. Money has ruined football for me. Sometimes I'm 50/50 whether to give up on it all together.

When the chairman is called Peter Pan, no wonder McLeish wants to leave Birmingham.

In fairness to him he is a decent track record and is a good manager - even though his teams play sterile football that makes you want to stick pins in your eyes. It won't work out for him at Villa though, for the simple reason Villa fans won't give him a chance to get it right.

\"Decent track record\" in English football?

2 relegations from the Premiership......isn't it?

Granted he was good with Scotland and Rangers, but a disaster with the Blues. They threw money at it to get back to the Prem, when anything less and it would've been armageddon.
This time round it WILL be armageddon at St Andrews.

League 1 in 2 seasons. Same case study as Charlton, Leeds, Saints, Owls, Blades etc etc..

When they played us at the Keepmoat I am pretty sure they played one up front.
Although Cameron Jerome did look quality in the Championship

I don't think Villa should try and get McLeish for free, never mind for a compensation fee!
