Tommy Spurr

Apparently Rovers are interested in Tommy Spurr from Wednesday, 6ft1 left back. And if we go back to this thread i posted maybe Spurr was the guy we were looking at.

Probably the only player they have worth a look.

Where have you heard this?

On the Wednesday subject, i see they have signed Rob Jones  What an absolute donkey.

Wouldn't mind if we looked at Mark Beevers (centre back) too. Needs to get his career going again, this could be a good place.

He's had a shocking time of it the last couple of years at Hillsboro after a bright start where they were expecting him to go on to bigger things. Would be no surprise whatsoever if we could get hold of him for SoD to get the lad back on track, i'd be more than happy with this and would consider him a better bet than Mills at present who dipped alarmingly after a bright start.

Is Heffernan worth a punt?

Statistically, he is f**king ace.

heard about that Beevers a couple of years ago. Also signed him on footy manager for rovers, he was ace! Which obviously means he's good in real life, so...sign him! ;)

I think the reason we sold him in the first place is because he generally struggled at this level. I'd like to see if he could cut it however, with the lack of matches he's had at Hilsbrough I doubt he would acheive much now. Shame cos he did alot for us :clapping:

Copps pulled their defence apart a couple of years ago, Spurr and Beevers played in that game i think.

Neither has gone on from Wednesday despite the links to other clubs, maybe they aren't as good as Wednesday fans once thought.

I think he'd be a decent signing but I'm not sure if he'd play left-back. I thought he only played there because they didn't have a recognised left-back. Plus, I think he's right footed, and I'm not too keen on right footers playing left back.

QPR bid a million for him earlier in the season.

My mate who is a Sheffield Wednesday fan tells me he's a confidence player and that his confidence is gone. Apparently both Spurr and Beevers would benefit from a change of scene and don't appear to be in Megson's plans.

One thing I think we have to appreciate is that we cannot sign the finished article as we can't afford it. When we brought in Shackell he had not had the greatest time, Wolves fans were not overly complimentary.

Not saying Spurr is the answer but I wouldn't rule him out based purely on the opinion of the Sheffield Wednesday fans, no matter how valid they are to his current perceived ability.

Similar to what a couple of Wendy fans told me today too.

\"You can't ave him !\"

\"Well that's what happens when bigger clubs come sniffing !!\"

Bang on. That's always going to be the way for a small club like ours at this level. We have to take educated chances with players. Ryan made it perfectly clear when he took O'Driscoll on that he saw O'Driscoll's task as finding the unpolished gems that could help us survive at this level. Over the long term, O'Driscoll has done that superbly. There is no wonder that Ryan is so committed to him.

Of course, there are bound to be stinkers along the way. It's a shamecthat most of them have been at CH over this last year but there you go. I guess the big question is how long O'Driscoll can keep pulling unheralded rabbits like Matt Mills or Shackell out of the hat, or reinvigorating established pros who have list their way like Oster, Sharp, Stock or Wellens. I'm guessing it gets harder every year when you see your side taken apart by vultures who are incapable of doing that job themselves, but have deep pockets. A veritable Sisyphean task.

Sharp is a prime example of a player who had lost his way. Sean worked his magic and now he's in demand. Spurr and Beevers both strike me as Sean type players who could benefit from working under his tuition.

... I was thinking this last night. All these players names are brought into threads on here and people say 'no chance' or 'past it' etc...
Surely if SOD has taught us anything it is that he can get the best out of some players. Also, how one player players with one team would be totally different to how he would play if he played in the hoops. As DVR says, Sharp is a prime example!

I know SOD can turn a banger into a Ferrari but he could start with a half decent banger rather than a rusty Reliant Robin with no engine (named Tommy)

The words \"can't polish a turd\" come to mind

Still heavily linked this week for Spurr. Read a few articles (though all spouting same info)

One comment by an Owl fan (robc) at the bottom of this page made me piss myself laughing though...
