Football pitches
« on June 28, 2011, 02:12:34 pm by Perks »
I was wondering if anyone knew of a spare pitch (non council run) available for a sunday morning blokes team. Last year we played at Peglers Sports Field, but it looks like the council are taking this on, so we could be without a ground for the coming season as there's uncertanty as to whether the football facilites will be kept. I've tried a couple of other places like the Parklands (full) and Balby Carr (expensive - £850 for the season).

Any information would be grateful

The SMC (Swindling Management Committee) were wanting £90 for two hours on the grass pitch last season. I don't think they'll be cheaper somehow.

It is when you can get it for a lot cheaper elsewhere.

It wouldn't be £4 though as it's the home teams duty to pay for the pitch (unless it's a friendly), so it would work out nearly £7 and then there is the ref's fee on top, so your talking nearer £9 to play 90 minutes of football. Well unless your a subs or sub'd, then it's much worse.

Opposition teams don't tend to chip in for Sunday morning league games... so you're looking at £8 a man which is a lot.

I appreciate it does not help at the minute, but the County FA are working with Sport England to support two applications to create new community sport facilties, which include football pitches. They are at the old Eden Grove sports ground, and somewhere in Stainforth. Plus work is taking place to create new facilties on the straight mile

Regarding the forthcoming season, try McAuley School, they have a lot of full-size pitches which don't get used on a Sunday.

Hope that helps

And for your £90 you are getting a well maintained pitch marked out by professional Groundstaff, use of posts and nets that you don't have to put up and take down and clean modern changing facilities with hot showers.

Or would you rather play on the council rec that more times than not has had dogs sh!tting on it during the week, where you have to bring ladders to put your own nets up and no changing facilities so you have to turn up kitted and go home smelly and dirty...

I know which i'd rather have...and before you pass comment, consider we pay far more than £90 to use pitch 2, 5 times year to play our games

All the lads in our team would rather save money.

The simple fact of reality is we're in the middle of a recession and we need to save every penny we possibly can. Congratulations if you can afford it, but just because you can it doesn't make any better than those of us who play on smelly pitches full of dog crap.

We played on Peglers sports field last season, which had changing facilities including showers. Both pithces were marked out perfectly fine and well as the grass cut. We payed £30 per home game, with it free to train on the training pitch. Now that's value for money and the rest of the facilities around Doncaster could learn a lot from.

There`s only 2 places in Stainforth which would be big enough for the project, one is the miners welfare ground and the other is the old playing field on East Lane

I worked at Peglers 1964/65 and then Paragon Plastics 1968/71.
I played in the same Sunday League side as Brian a bit about 1971.
Happy days.
I could walk without a limp then though.

It is  Abbey Playing Field, Informal Land, Station Road, Dunscroft. The proposal is conversion of former school playing field for use as 2 football pitches, allotments, with 1.8m high palisade fencing and gates and car parking.
