Don't get me wrong, I am delighted he's staying. However, I must agree, not the BIG announcement I was expecting. To be honest nothing has even changed, we've been saying Billy aint going anywhere on here for months now... So in all reality (and with a garnish of hindsight!!) we were ALL in the know about this one!

I'm with you Bedale, as welcome as the news is and I don't claim to be ITK but I already knew about Sharp not leaving. Buying the Stadium would have been big news, announcing the signings of Bennett, Naylor, Mason and a couple of other players would have been fairly big and a multi- billion pound investor who wouldn't want their money back, earth shattering. I'm left a little underwhelmed :chair:

Seth Bennett's suggesting that theres a clause in his contract that allows him to speak to clubs for a certain fee. If Billy doesn't want to leave then why would he need this in his contract? John's said he tells the players of bids for them, so why not just let him know if a club has bid for him?

Well, may be not news but confirmation of what we've been told by those ITK. Pleased that Billy has stuck to JR's word and not gone to another Championship club.

My concern is there is an undertone in the message from JR everytime he goes on radio and I interpret it as this.

\"X is signing/staying despite ST sales being crap and Rovers fans should consider themselves very lucky. If you're not careful and don't buy more season tickets, we're not going to be able to keep this up\"

Problem is JR, we the hard core have already bought ours so surely you're not pointing the finger at us. So you must be pointing the finger at those fans who you managed to entice successfully out of their armchairs in the previous five or so seasons who are not 'Rovers 'till I Die'.

Well John, by now you should know why ST numbers have been in decline and you have the answers and only you can do something about it. You chose to ignore the feedback from previous ST holders who hadn't renewed and no doubt, the feedback you are getting from the recent crop of 'non-renewers' is the same theme.

Sorry JR but if you are convinced your policy is right then you are leading us down a path that fewer mice will follow. You can't expect the same 'hard core' to pay whatever you choose to be the going rate as that core will start to be eroded.

If half of the people on this forum are ITK, you might as well just tell the rest of us!!

Pooper-scoop claims to be in the know, but the truth is he knows about as much as you can write on a postage stamp about what is going on.

Look Kenny I have claimed nothing of the sort now give it a rest will you . I merely mentioned a conversation I had some 18m ago with someone very close to the Board.
I hear snippets but no longer have the sources.
As for transfer rumours , they can change daily .....they're on they're off even the club doesn't know until the dotted line has been signed.
Oh and some fooker finds the pen that constantly gets mislaid. ;)

Well that was such a non-scoop that I was ITK and wasn't even ITK that I was ITK.

I hope the Steelers fans had more to get excited about.

Here we go again
Unhappy as can be
Same old lyrics
And Storrrry.

We had 8000 ST holders in the first year, John what money did you spend apart from £300,000 in improving the team. Yes wages.
Second year we lost or they went two very good players and we replace them with good loanees and John Oster Season tickets dropped to 6,000 but prices went up.
Third year we signed Billy alot of also rans, two potentially good players and the loaness were really no better than what we had.ST were more expensive
So far this pre-season, we are relying on Billy saying NO and so far a player with potential and one may be over the hill. ST are more expensive.
JR what do you expect the football year on year has got worst the calibre of player apart from Billy has not improved and yet year on year we are asked to pay more for ST.
We have Lost 4,000 in three years with the strategy adopted by the board. So lets hope we can keep Billy and had some better players and maybe support will rally.

Hear bloody hear........I suggest you e-mail the Board that post. Somehow just siomehow they will finally accept that their strategy is NOT working ; I hope they prove us all wrong with something a lot lot ''hotter'' than we currently have . :(

Actions speak louder than words, e.g. Souza for Shackell.

I've been waiting for your reaction all day RJ. When I heard it this morning and the anti-climax of the news sunk in, I was just imagining you at work throughout the day thinking

\"ooooh, I wonder what the news is\" and working yourself into a excited, euphoric state.

ONLY to get home and realise YOU TOO were already 'In the know'!!

... I'm just glad I heard it as early as possible, I couldn't be doing with my overactive imagination playing havoc throughout my day!!   :(

That's exactly what it was like :( was hoping it'd be a flashy new signing (I know, never really that likely for us) or at least something we wouldn't be able to guess anyway.. had a shite day today and this made it that bit worse :P Bennett = prick :P

It has finally dawned on me that what Seth meant by big news was that his beloved Sheffield Steelers were being taken over by new owners :(

Still... At least we didn't re-sign Souza on a 3 year deal!!!  :scarf:

I was still in a dream, but thought I'd woken up and had turned the radio on and Seth was eagerly announcing our transfer activity: all the squad had been sold off and we'd brought in a complete new First XI.  First two in were Souza and Guy on 5 year deals, but then the alarm went off.

Did anybody else have the same nightmare and who else was in the rest of the squad?  (Obviously in Benaldo's we'd have kept Hird!)

Not had chance to read the whole thread but i get the picture people aren't impressed by the 'big news'.

Let me put this into perspective...

A player (debatably our best) has turned down Southampton, a club with far more money/history/expectation than ourselves. This to me is huge news both on the pitch and off the pitch as we are obviously doing something right!

:scarf: UTR :scarf:

I don't even see this as good news. Obviously in the short term, it's great that Billy has turned down a move to Saints, but doesn't the fact that we'll accept £3m just alert other clubs to what we'll accept? Billy probably doesn't want to move to Saints due to the location (if we're being honest) so if a local-ish club wants him now, they know what they'll have to pay. We're pretty much stuck at £3m now.

Maybe we accepted knowing he'd reject, to kind of send out a statement? Just a thought.

Have I missed something? It is well known that players are informed by JR of all bids/offers made for them, just because Sharp has turned down a move to Saints doesn't mean that JR had accepted the offer...... or am I living in bizzarro world?
