Hmmm. A sacrificial offering to divert attention away from the wider News international sins? The ones that Tom Watson MP discussed yesterday?

The Murdoch family appears to be shitting half setters over this.

Hmph. Get your bets on as to when a Sunday edition of The Sun gets announced...

Me, cynical..?

EDIT: Ken Clarke, Justice Secretary, on being told the news: 'All they're going to do is rebrand it'...

Wow. Didn't expect that. As stated, there must be some rotten old stinking skeletons in the closet for Murdoch to take a decision like this. Murdoch has been too powerful for too long. Fingers crossed some more dominos start falling soon.

Say what you like about Prescott, he knows how the grubby world of power politics works:

\"It's a typical management stunt of Mr Murdoch. None of the management are going, all the poor old workers are going\".

The really sad thing is the Murdoch's and their minions took a paper that was for over one hundred and sixty years a British institution and corrupted it as surely as if it they had given a lover the pox.

Sadly we all know this is a sop to the masses, all they will do is remove the name and start again. and  as Prescot says, it isn't going to be the ones who deserve to go who will be falling on their swords.

I would just LOVE one of the other newpapers (say the Guardian or the Independent), once tomorrow's NOTW has been and gone, to IMMEDIATELY announce the start-up of The New News Of The World, hiring all the staff that Murdoch's sacked.

It would immediately gain a massive amount of goodwill by being a new tabloid, clearly not under the same regime as the old NOTW, and not leaving a load of innocent people on the dole.

Best of all, it'd thoroughly piss on Rupert's chips because if someone were to announce this before NI can rebrand their 'toxic' paper, it'll corner the market and wipe the floor with them because Murdoch's new tabloid simply won't have the goodwill.

And Murdoch will have thrown away his biggest seller for NOTHING! :D
