Mini match report Barrow V Rovers
« on July 16, 2011, 04:46:44 pm by Theresonly1barrowrover »
This was a game of 2 halves (as they say)
1st Half
Woods
Dumbaya
Naylor
Gillet
Oster
Baxendale
Coppinger
Vine
Bennet
Deeney
Radford

With Bennet & Dumbaya using their pace down the flanks and Vine holding the ball up well, Rovers looked lively. Oster scored in the 33 min, Gillett got the second in the 42nd minute. Vine drew a superb one handed save from Barrows new stopper Hurst with a rasping drive.

2nd Half
Sullivan
Hird
Friend
Spur
Bouhenna
McDonald
Shiels
Fairhurst
Sharp
Hayter

Rovers went to much more of a short sharp passing game, keeping the ball for long periods but more often than not giving the ball to the Barrow defender.
Barrow had the best chance when due to some sloppy defending Cook found himself  one on one with Sulli, only to put his shot against the bar.

All in all a good workout against a spirited Barrow side

We only played with 10 in the second half?

Think Wilson has been missed off the second half list, easily done!

Thanks for the report by the way. Which of the trialists showed up best? How did the Algerian get on, and was Woods tested in goal?

Yes I did overlook Wilson, sorry.

I thought that Vine looked quite good.

Thw Algerian looked sound against a Barrow side that also included several trialists..

Woods biggest problems came from a couple of short back passes from his own defenders, his kicking could have been better, no change there then!

Second half, Sharp looked about as much a 3 million pound striker as I do..

Early days yet, onwards and upwards.

On a personal note, it was nice to see Rovers without having to make a 320 mile round trip.

From the brief highlights now on Player, difficult to come to any conclusions other than Vine looking like a strapping lad and seemed to hold the ball up well and not shy to have a strike.

One or two flashes of skill from Bennett and Baxendale. Good finishes from Oster and particularly Gillett who walloped the ball in to the net from 22 yds.
