Muzzy
« on August 17, 2011, 08:11:16 pm by Lewis Guys Dentist »
As much as i love Muzzy and like to stick up for him and praise him etc etc.
I really dont think hes a defender. Hes more like a winger.
Does anyone else agree? Because i have thought this for some time.
And much prefer Sammy to be a right back. (until JOC is back).
Sammy gives us a much better dimension and has more attributes as a defender than muss has in my eyes.
But aslong as SOD fields him each week. Ill still be behind him! lets hope he can prove me wrong!

Have you read the two zillion other posts on this subject yet? Did it really need a new thread?

Very. which puts you down with the one-celled mud dwellers.

Ouch VD!!

I know, but if you're going to hit the 'new thread' button you should at least check that it is a new topic, not something that has been done to death over the last 24 hours ffs. If I had come here tonight wanting to moan about a player I'd have started by looking at the threads with obvious titles, like 'not good enough' etc.

Just plain lazy.

I agree, i`ve seen threads started about a subject when the same subject is being discussed 4 or 5 threads further down! by more than 1 poster

Is it not possible to introduce a thread checker? Ive seen them on other sites where when you put the thread title in it pulls up other \"similar\" threads to avoid re-threading the same things?

Well if the forum is to operate as a forum, then actually Mr Dentist, yes, it is a big deal. If everyone took the same lazy attitude as you and started a new thread every time they had a brainwave then the forum would be full of hundreds of single post threads. Can you see why that would be a problem?

For what its worth anyway, one thing I have noticed about Dumbuya is that he seems a lot less willing to really run full tilt down the pitch, so he's obviously been told to work on being a defender first and an attacking threat 2nd. He's still a work in progress but the pace he has alone puts him in front of Hird in that spot imo, though I'd have JO'C there when fit.

Have to say that he seems, by his standards, a lot slower than before his injury. At times he seems to lack the turn of pace both defensively and in attack that he had. Having said that he's stil bl00dy quick but not as quick as before.

He admitted himself that he still wasn't 100% for the West Ham game after his cold/ virus, I didn't see him on Tuesday so can't comment on that, but I sa him against Swansea last season at the KM and he had both Dyer and Sinclair so much in his picket that they swapped them around and eventually took Dyer off as he was so ineffective. Of course he still has things to learn, but in my book he can defend as well as attack.

He seems to be caught between a rock and a hard place at the moment. In a way he's too disciplined. There have been a few occasions when he has got forward, and you just want him to take someone on and he checks back.

When he has got in to good positions his delivery hasn't been the best. He just needs to look up a bit more. I'm sure there will come a time when he gets a bit more confident, may be when we're in winning positions, he'll let loose and cause a lot of damage. Defending, he seems to go narrow and sometimes gives him self too much to do to get to the wide man and fails to stop the cross.

Spurr on the other side did exactly that on Tuesday when they scored, although for most of the game his positioning was much better. For that reason I think goals are less likely from Spurr's side.

Similarly with Spurr, I think he could do more attacking wise. He's gets up and down but I'd like to see him gambling more and getting in to the box occasionally , just as Gunter did for Forest. He's a big lad so we should be using that to our advantage in attacking areas.

On form, I wouldn't be disappointed if Sam played at right back, just as he did v Tranmere but there's the obvious solution with JOC waiting in the wings. His minor knee injury seems to be taking a long time. When he's back I think our back four will become very strong as a unit.

In all honesty I have never liked him. When he signed (the same season along with Webster and co) I didn't see anything special.

Last season he had a great few games and became way overated overnight.

I do think he is a decent player for a league one team, but I don't think he has enough experience under this level to trust him with the RB position just yet, but who knows if he can stay fit he may really mature this season and prove me wrong. He has speed no doubt about it, but his control and composure leave little to the imagination.

He can become a great player for us, and I do think that under SOD he can learn to become a great RB. After a few of his \"average\" performances in games in my opinion people have begun to question whether or not he should play where SOD plays him. On that topic im not so sure, he could be a winger, but if he sorts out his footwork and defending ability he offers an extra body going forward.

I'd rather have him at right back than someone who refuses to get into the opposition's half. We're a team used to seeing the wide defenders get forward in Chambers, O Connor, Roberts and McDaid. Why fix something that IMO isn't broken?

Agree with that. Spot on. He's overrated really, and therefore people are getting high expectations of him.

I don't think he's ready to be a first choice right back. Whether he ever will be remains to be seen, but for me, JOC would go straight back in when he's fit.
