FA Cup
« on January 04, 2012, 12:00:17 am by Norfolk N Chance »
Would people be bothered if we got knocked out?

I for one want us to go as far as possible and given we have decent sized squad no excuses for not doing well.

Always very important to bring the funds in!

I'd like us to give it a real go, especially this Saturday, no  midweek game next week, so shouldn't be a problem fitness wise and as you say there's a bigger squad now, I would expect to see all the new signings play if available.

I'll be there whatever!

... success breeds success ... I really want us to go for progression in this and who knows draw a Man City or Arsenal ( or Stoke) away and enhance the coffers a little.

I see no point at the moment of throwing away the chance to go further at this stage

So you're saying Man City will knock Man Utd out?

Winning mentality, simple as that.  QUite often teams struggling in the league feel less pressure and express theirselves in the cup, hopefull we will.

Can you back this up with following stats, possesion = goals, how many times the winning goalkeeper bangs the mud off his boots on the lefthand upright.

and most importantly how often does the referee put his whistle to his lips without blowing it, oh and I nearly forgot how often does the linesman press the little button on his flag during a game.

Untill you provide this evidence I'm not going to believe your statement

Winning is a good habit, after three successive Home wins it would be bad for moral if we lost at home to a lower ieague club

League survival, cup is only a small windgfall these days, not worth it in the long run.

Of course it's worth it even if it provides further revenue doh. Something we need and have been banging on about for years.
We need to 'push on' no-one can deny the effect that the League Cup run had on us a few years ago.

You could also argue a cup run saved O'Driscoll from the chop, JPT it was, without that I bet he'd have been sacked in 2008.

I take your broader point but the League Cup run shafted us for promotion that season and ultimately led to McIndoe leaving us shortly after we got knocked out.

Nothing brings in the fans and unites supporters like a cup run- Exactly what we need

Can you remember how we were doing before we beat Man City? We weren't going well and Penney was taking some serious abuse.

Selective memories OML, if I recall we were struggling somewhat too. There is no doubt that the Cup run was extremely important for the club's profile at that time after those years in the Conference.
It signalled that we were truly back in business to the football world.

Me I' m just a sad old statto (Dickos1/MadMick be warned what can happen if you get too close to numbers)

Since we came back into the league less than 9 years ago we have seen our second highest league finish ever (2009-10, 32nd in the country), equalled our best ever League cup run (Quarter final - I was at our first one at White Hart Lane in 1975-76) and won the JPT/Associate Members' Cup (I was there). The only thing missing is equalling (or bettering) our best ever FAC Cup run which is 5th Round/Last 16 which we achieved 4 times in 5 seasons in the 1950' s (I wasn' t there   ). Since we have started in the 3rd round in the last four seasons that means winning only 2 rounds - we haven't threatened it yet - maybe this season pretty please :rtid:

No brainer for me, winning becomes a habit or so they say,a cup run could help with that plus it will only improve our 'shop window' profile. meaning better loans players hopefully.

Staying up is the priority, but when we beat Notts Co we are just 3 more wins from Wembley (semi final).

I thought the semis werent at Wembley this year.  I think I read one was at the Millenium Stadium.  Now, our record there aint too shabby.......

Edit: Actually, just checked and they are at Wembley.  I must heave dreamt it.  I'm sure it had something to do with the Olympic footy, which starts before the games \"proper\" do.

A bit hazy now, but I think I remember a reasonable day at Wembley too!
