Now normally you would dismiss this as usual speculation, but given the mirror's track record this season (especially with late night editions) there could be a hint of truth in it.

As he turned them down in the summer, I doubt they'll be back. They seem to be after Gary Hooper though.

They do need a striker as they looked particularly toothless last night without Lambert.

Has it ever been confirmed what amount the release clause actually is? I have seen quotes from £1.5m through to JR's £3m????

Going for Southampton - a tie in with ex Physio / Manager and a real chance to get in Prem
Against Southampton - a supposed desire to stay in this area which narrows his Prem chances for the forseeable future

I think they have given up on Hooper.

Southampton may be a decent fit for Billy, but I still think he is waiting for Andy Johnson to leave Fulham.
