Very disappointed with Copps...

Yes, he is worth the admission money alone but why leave it until it's all over to suggest the experiment was wrong?

Perhaps so as not to be accused of rocking the boat while we were still in with a shout?

If you think it would have been best swept under the carpet then by all means criticise him for opening his mouth, but surely the timing of it is not the problem.

People that refuse to believe there have been any problems will presumably pay no attention anyway.

Too many supporters trying NOT to show apparent disloyalty to J/R I think he is big enough to take the flack and Copps is just saying what we all wanted and that was here from someone who knows what HAS been going on. Good for him we deserve to know .

That is why they were brought in to give us a chance!

Completely disagree. He's been here for 8 years, if anyone deserves to have the ability to speak out about things at Rovers from his POV, its him!

Cos I am objective I don't believe what I read in the papers re McKay!

At this rate this experiment will have done untold damage!

Not because it has or has not worked (define worked) but because Jr was fully behind it as a concept and had the balls to try it !

I admire the club, greatly for this and not just giving up and going down!

Alternative? SOD... Yes a great one but given we won 3 games in 8 months ...Come on cleaver b*llocks is that that McKay fault? JR fault?

Not a "nasty"  Frenchman in sight?

Total convenient excuse... all their fault, it certainly is NOT!

So why was he not an adult about it and discuss through appropriate channels ?

Take the emotion out of the relegation issues and ask yourself is this the right way to communicate?

To be fair, Sky Sports have been a bit devious with they way they've portrayed his comments. They've taken them way out of context.

Anyway, if that's his opinion then he's entitled to it. If the 'experiment' had proved a roaring success, then fair enough, he might be out of order, but it seems that it has caused more harm than it has good.

Also, it's not as though Copps blames the 'experiment' for our relegation. Here's what Paul Goodwin tweeted earlier...

The reporter talking to Copps said that, given the names that had come into #drfc, relegation was surprising when promotion had been mooted.

Copps also said: "I think relegation is down to an accumulation of things. It's hard to change things in a short period of time."

Coppinger: "Unfortunaely the gaffer and everyone concerned were put into a position where they were fighting an uphill battle."

Coppinger: "We had great success with Sean for five years but obviously Dean hasn't had that time - he's not had that bedding in period."

Coppinger: "He's been thrown in at the deep end with the job of trying to keep us in the league and it's been hard for everybody."

Fair comments IMO, and nowhere near as damning/controversial/sensational as Sky Sports made them sound.

Agree with you in a sense, fair play to him for saying what he really thinks. Whether he should have kept it to himself or not,  I'm not sure, as we all know what Sky can be like, but I'm glad he's come out and said it. It's nice knowing that he really cares.   :rtid:

So Copps never said anything that bad about things.  Have to say it's unlike a Rupert Murdoch-owned company to misquote people.... Ahem...

Perhaps because it involves his CAREER... He isn't playing for the fun of it, he isn't nine. He is an adult working as a footballer..

slightly different from a fan/supporter.

I'd say he has the right to comment and as it's already been stated that most of what he said has been taken out of context anyway.. Let's face it, is it a huge suprise that he and quite probably more than one of the players are under enamoured with this 'experiment'?

Im sure Copps is gutted that the OP is 'dissapointed' with his honest and forthright views.

Personally I applaud Copps for being absolutely spot on and speaking from the heart.

The proof was in the pudding, the 'experiment' was a mistake and a dismal failure - it remains to be seen what damage it has actually done going foward.

I'll bet if he'd said that the experiment was wrong at Christmas you'd have accused him of not giving it time to work and you'd have also demanded that he was disciplined by the club.

Time you took your "Willie McKay" blinkers off!

SO he hasn't said it's all wrong and he's been fairly well balanced when you see his comments in full.  Bit unfair of the media reporting it as they have then.....

He's right on some things though, perhaps Saunders hasn't had the time he's needed and that he should be given time to do things his way.  I expect that's what he's going to get anyway.

Ryan was on 5 live last night, I missed it, but my dad said Ryan explained that under the circumstances Copps didn't say anything wrong. He said you know what reporters are like -print what they like ect and If you asked Copps now he would say he loves this club.

So It's not likely he's annoyed or anything.
