Request for the stattos
« on April 29, 2012, 12:36:27 am by Chris Black come back »
Would be interesting to have some analysis of the last four seasons in the Championship - which players have played the most games, top scorers etc.

This will be useful to reminisce as we pass from the Championship down to the Chumpionship and line up against Bury and Shrewsbury next season.

Have a look at this website for Rovers stats, if you click on the 'League Championship Stats tab' it shows appearances, goal scores etc for our Championship years.

Before you do though 5 Rovers players have reached double figures for Championship goals in the last 4 years, Sharp, Hayter, and Copps being the really obvious ones, can you name the other 2?

Excellent site Mr Brightside - bookmarked

On a wider note, over the last 4 championship years I have been tracking Rovers match stats (e.g. shots on target, possession, cautions etc) that appear on match reports and BBC, and they are in the attachment. Inevitably there will be a few mistakes in individual matches but a few trends are clear.

First of all this not any comparison of any Rovers management teams, so I have put up yearly summaries, and not made a distinction to coincide with the management change in 2011-12. From the attached my own observations include:

•   Although over these 4 years we have committed significantly fewer fouls than opponents (1772 versus 2020) we have about the same number of cautions (218 versus 222), exactly the same number of red cards (12 for and against) and about the same number of penalties (20 versus 19). Although individual cases cannot be commented upon this is not inconsistent with JR's contention that we don't seem to get the rub of the green on decisions.

•   We have had slightly more possession than the opposition in the first 3 seasons, and significantly less last season

•   We have consistently had fewer shots than the opposition on and off target (except marginally on target in 2010-11), with the disparity significantly greater last season

•   Ratio of corners has been variable, but again significantly lower last season

The poor statistics of last season are not meant as any criticism, merely a sympton of losing far more matches.

I blame the weather over here for not getting out more  :chair:

Here is a challenge for you Dutch et al - who have been the most succesful Championship players for Rovers? Which players have the best appearances to win ratios? My guess is that Shackell, Mills, M Woods, Sharp and maybe Sullivan wouldbe pretty high up. Most of the short termers this season being at the other end.

Heffs for one of those players?

Just looking at the history books the 2009/10 season was our greatest season. Ever. We played more games than we did in our higher finished seasons, one in the 1901/02 and the 1950/51 season, we picked up more points to games and we got a positive goal difference for the one and only time in the second division.

On average we spend 16 seasons out of the second division before returning, and the quickest we have gone back up to the second dvision is 2 seasons between dropping out in 1948 and returning in 1950 (finishing 1st in the Third Division North)
