Not getting carried away but...

Just seen we are 4/5 tonight with William Hill online.

Surely an excellent price!

Sorry, non-gambler here.  Does that mean for every five pounds I put on I would get that back plus four pounds if we win?

Sounds a bit risky to me.

Maybe I'm just dull and over cautious ;)

Yes, if you bet £5, you will get, £4 winnings and your £5 back.

Therefore £20 on, will pay £36 quid.

Gambling tax was abolished about 15 years ago, I think.

You've been away too long, GVA! ;)

4-5 on - reminds me of the last time I bet on a horse race (about my third time ever as well)

I took Mrs Dutch to Donny Racetrack as payback for her going to Keepmoat. I bet £5 on a horse at 4-5 on, and it won.........in a dead heat. That halved my return so I got a whole £4.50 back for my fiver.

Bet on a winner and still lost money

You got done, you should've got your stake money back plus 50% of return.

You sure on that? My bet was certainly with a major bookmaker. Paying winnings, however little, to backers of two horses sounds like 'unexpected' extra costs for bookies, and I don't think they do that. I was surprised at the time but they did explain it.

Payment was correct Dutch Uncle. Technically only half the bet won so you got half your stake on at 4/5.

Thanks Bobbymax

I get some mileage over here telling the tale of betting on a winner and losing money.......

Does this mean we're favourites to win in comparison to a Bury win? I am unsure of betting odds if the smallest number comes first... Only ever been races once and that's it.

rovers 8/11 - bury 7/2 on paddy power. Lets hope the bookies are spot on! desperatly hope bury get nothing but 7/2 seems a big price. But, bookies seem to make plenty of money so lets hope for a great result!
