For the first game of the season we wore the 1996/7 Patrick kit bearing the sponsor East Riding Sacks (Mr. Richardson's company) because we didn't have a kit at the time, luckily it didn't cause the uproar it could have, down to in part that the Rovers following was small as it was away at Dover. We did (thanks to Ian Snodin I believe) manage to get a contract with Asics to be the kit supplier after playing in a further 2 different (training) kits. That was the 4th shirt of the season and was made available in October time 98. This was also the kit that saw the return of the Viking with a red and white shield, as in 97/98 the badge had a Dark Green (some believe to be black, but the souvenir mugs it was green) and white badge, and in 1996/97 was the horrible crest where we sent a rough hand drawing to the manufacturers that wasn't edited before being made. It was fitting then, that in the season opener in 1998/99 we returned to this shirt, with a logo that had gone from professional looking to amateur, just like our club.
Go back and re-read it, for the first game of the season in the 1998/99 season we wore the 1996/97 kit, we still had no kit and we came out in the first game of John Ryan's control we wore the shirt bearing Richardson's company East Riding Sacks. The shirt that is the topic of this thread didn't arrive while October 1998. If your going to attempt to correct me Frosty make sure your reading specs are on...
