James Hayter

Just seen the football league show and it looks like Hayter has been playing well down at Yeovil. He was one of the players I had really hoped we would keep, good luck to him and hope he does well down there (although obviously not at our expense this weekend!)

What are the chances of him scoring on saturday against us, as many players do against their former clubs?

I think Alickismyhero refers to those who had him sat on the bench or not even in the squad when we had an influx of mercenaries at the club.

When he did play last season he was totally ineffective, never looked like scoring and he couldnt hold the ball up. Good luck to him at Yeovil he needed a change, don't think hes suited to DS's more direct pressing style.

I think people keep believing that, just because we released/failed to offer an extension to a player, they automatically think Deano did'nt/does'nt rate them,or think they are good enough for league one.Thats not true in more cases than not since our relegation. We have been paying championship wages for most of the released players,it's now necessary to only sign players on more of a league one level wage.Players are unlikely to accept a drop in wages to extend their current contract with us,hence, most move on to other clubs, even though it's with less wages. Some probably do get similar or more wages, like Gillett at the moment.
I think the general concensous from most fans is,James is currently, not quite good enough for the championship, but would/will be a good league one player.

Agree with that. DS said there were several he hoped to keep hold of, sadly the reduced wages we offered couldn't compete with those offered by other clubs, or certain players may have refused the drop in salary.

Sure  he'll do well at Yeovil, he'll probably be the main man there. Personally i'd rather have Paynter and Brown with Blake coming off the bench when he gets fit.

Wouldnt of thought it be to do with wages and to do with competing with yeovil

Id say its more to do with what we was paying could get paynter and blake for same wages who are better anyway

And players such as Oster maybe wishing they had accepted reduced terms ( thinking they are better than they are )

The fact is we got rid of Hayter because we couldn't afford to keep him. Even after we released them 10 or 11 we were still trying desperately to sell other players so that we could balance the books. I'm sure having been a striker, Deano rates Hayter quite highly and understands what he adds to a team.

Definitely one of my favourite Rovers players in recent years and not just because of that goal against Leeds scum at Wembley.

Hayter can't be faulted on his time with us,never seemed to cause a problem when he wasn't in the team, scored a few important goals, especially ''The Goal'',i think he probably needed a new start, good luck to him :scarf:

Look, I don't mind criticism in fact I like to debate when a good well thought out opinion is put forward against my own.
I can only think you have formed an opinion from previous post where I have disagreed with poorly thought out opinions on Sean. I would like to think that I am a friend of Sean and I still keep in touch with him. A very honourable man I have a great deal of respect for.

Wellred,

I take it you think that I have it in for Deano well that is not the case. If you read the comments I have recently made on another forum my comments are not bad “as usual” in fact they are supportive of Deano.
My view on Deano, for what it is worth ,is that he was out of his depth in the Championship and because his hands were tied relegation was a cert. Now the First division is a different Kettle of fish, I hate that name, he is producing a team to do well at this level. You must admit he is still learning his trade as a manager.

When it comes to Hayter try reading it again with “All players returning to his old club” have something to prove, in mind. I think you have jumped to an incorrect conclusion.

MY RECENT COMMENTS ON DEANO.

Written 23/8/12

The outstanding thing is Deano has not spent a penny so far and getting good results but unless he gets the extra players I don't think it will last a month. So come on board loosen those purse strings we could be on for a good run and bigger gates.

Crazy,
I can't see the run lasting with the size of squad we have what with suspensions and injuries that are sure to catch up with the team. Deano hasn't spent a penny so far but he needs more players and sooner rather than later. The board should help him out, he hasn't done badly so far and if the run carries on he could put another 1000 on the gate. That should cover the wages of loan players he wants. Come to think of it, keep the run going and we may even afford to keep Copps

25/8/12
It was a bad day at the office but lets keep it in proportion we are still in 5th position having had two good results. For anyone to say Saunders out is out of order for me.

My gut feeling is that the team is tired and Dean must start to rotate the squad for Tuesday. Copps offers nothing! sorry I cant go along with that because he needs game time something he hasn't had.
yes NY its me defending Deano and I think I may be in the minority again.

WR,
I hope that explains my opinion on Deano.

I accept your comments however I only read this forum so will not have read your posts elsewhere.

We both have different opinions on the previous Manager, that's life we are never all going to agree.

Sorry if I misread your comment. At the end of the day we all want success for DRFC whoever is in charge. I have endured the frustration of following rovers for 50 years. I don't suppose it will change, it's part of following a "smaller" club and not being a glory supporter.

Thank you for the reply.
Alick.

My first game 1955, I have no recollection of it and if you add my brothers life term we are well over 100years of support. From that experience I can honestly say these are the good times.

Arrrrrrrrrh, bless you both.

Time to reflect on a few words from Paul and Steven and both enjoy a game of Bummy Finger:

He has the record for tha fastest hat trick what's odds he gets another !  I say at first the opportunity Jones should launch him into row Z if they have one.

Thing is, you'd know he'd come straight back for more, teeth missing or not. It's like each 90 minutes he plays is an act of self-flagellation following that sexting mishap a few years back.

Any Rovers fan who doubts whether Hayter could do a job at this level is either stupid or has a short memory or both. He'd compliment any side in this division, everyone needs a James Hayter.

Whether Saunders thought this or not is a different matter though - I'd like to think his story was similar to that of Sam Hird.

People get overly romantic about players like Hayter and Hird. We all know the experiment didn't work but the reason Ryan and co were looking for an alternative eas because players like this were no where near good enough. If Hayter and Hird were here now I think they'd be fringe players warming the bench most weeks if they can be key players elsewhere good luck to them.

Don't get me wrong I agree (apart from the final sentence) - it would have been so easy to resign the majority of the squad from last season, and we'd be left with exactly the same team and no new ideas. The massive cull was needed desperately to bring new players, and here it is.

Can't help but thinking the baby may have been thrown out with the bathwater in the case of players like Hird, Dumbuya & Hayter though. Is Blake really a better option than Hayter?
