Something else he said that I thought was interesting. Not quite sure what to make of it though. P'raps two thirds of the way through he mentioned that Rovers had budgeted for mid table and that there are quite a few clubs with bigger budgets. Does that mean what I think it means? if it does, it's rather curious don't you think?

Cheers

I think it means that with some players out of contract this summer (and gone) but some still under contract to next summer, they saw this year as a 'consolidation'-type of year. I remember past interviews with Dean earlier this season and in pre-season where he said he would not expect to have his full team in place until NEXT season. Therefore, I think the budget was set to ensure that Rovers didn't slip through this league and into League Two - that was the primary objective. In essence, at present, we are exceeding that primary objective. Enjoy and rejoice!

Not sure I heard that Bob. Was that Radio Sheffield? My interpretation of that would be different though, as I've stated his budget considerations on here several times. The board gave him the 3rd biggest budget in this league, so I personally would expect him to be performing at this level. Sometimes, for managers, its easier to shift the performance expectations on to the board rather than deal with it yourself. Just a consideration!

Yes its in the RadioSheffield interview linked on the BBC match report. How I understood it was that at the start of the season DS/JR/the board/Madmick thought that with the budget they had we would finish in midtable. Which is consistent with what JR said at the fans forum in answer to the question of what the realistic aims for this season were, 10th, possibly a play-off.

How I understand it, and I think several posters on here might agree, is that although we have a large budget, a big chunk of that is taken up by several players on existing contracts who might not, for whatever reason, quite give value for money.

I certainly didnt see it as anything sinister, just downplaying expectations and being realistic - and probably also a little of the 'if only I had some more money that every manager comes out with.

Listen to what Saunders says at 5 min 26 seconds. The interview on Player. It's really puzzling me no end.

Bob.

Seems quite simple to me. The club budgeted for INCOME based on finishing mid-table.

I'm more concerned about him offering his two daughters for a threesome with George Friend.

When it was mentioned that Rovers would have one of the biggest budgets in League One, we knew that this didn't translate in to spending power but the legacy of higher wages.

Figures vary depending on who you believe, but cutting the budget from approaching £10 million down to £3 million was always likely to affect performance. However, Saunders has produced some rabbits out of his hat and we're doing much better than expected.

Managing expectations was always going to be a difficult balancing act but I think Gavin Baldwin taking over and taking a firmer grip on finances, whilst understanding what's needed to avoid the double drop, has stabilised the club.

Saunders understands the financial constraints has has not moaned about it, just stated fact so that everyone of us know where we stand.

We know JR is emotional but perhaps it needed two pragmatic people like Saunders and Baldwin to sort it out. So far, so bloody good !!

For once, JR does not have to shove his face in to every medium to big things up or smooth things over, as those who he's appointed are doing a fine job.

Just listened to both of the interviews on BBC Sheffield, Cant fault anything Deano had to say, yet again.

Also listened to Keith Curles comments and, Not that I'm surprised with the Beeb, but when interviewing Curle, the interviewer states they only had 2 shots on target during the whole 90 minutes... go to the bottom of the page and read the stats and it states 9 shots, 5 on target!! At least they're consistently inconsistent!!  :headbang:

I seem to recall (at the VSC AGM I think) JR stating that we wouldn't hear as much from him as Gavin, DS, Shaun Lockwood and co were going to be the faces of DRFC rather than him now - he was just gonna sit in the background and enjoy the ride for a while.

Obviously they weren't his exact words and I can't remember exactly what they were but that was what was inferred!

SORRY ALL - JUST REALISED I'VE PUT THIS IN THE WRONG THREAD!  :headbang:

While some are making a comparison between DS and SoD in front of the camera it's occurred to me SoD appears far more at ease this season than at any time with us when being interviewed.

Andy, I thought exactly the same.

You do know don't you that we will both forever be branded SO'D Lovers for admiting to having seen an interview of his.  Wait for the abuse....

I don't think SOD is ever at ease in front of the cameras. He wasn't even relaxed when we won promotion at Wembley.
How you can say he is at ease I don't know. He is still the same miserable bugger he has always been :-)
