I didn't realise they had a curse on us.

Good read, but not sure about "Avenue Road" as a venue! Also, they are in Conference North, so will be part-time these days.

Avenue Road is a mistake, corrected it... :chair:

It does say they have been Sunday league for the best part of 40 years, although they are part time now the statement still stands.

Cheers anyhow!  :scarf:

Interesting piece in the Yorkshire Post about commentator John Helm and BPA.
http://www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/sport/football/other-clubs/avenue-of-memories-flood-back-for-man-at-the-helm-1-5089966?

Fills in some of the history for those too young to remember the old days.

Wonderful stuff! Thanks for posting.

Park Avenue was my first ever away game in 1965, and I was also there when our 1968 game at PA was televised nu Yorkshire TV. Went to a Yorks CCC Sunday game at PA in the 80s, and it was so sad to see the football stadium at the other side of that pedimented stand, decaying. So good to see PA back.

Remember my Dad taking me there once too Alonzo. I must have been young. No idea of when it was, but I do know we actually won :) Quite a sizable crowd too according to my childhood memory.

Speaking recently to someone close to PA, still a semi-pro himself, says PA good team with a few v good prospects inc. at least 2 on £400 a game! Reckons they will give us a good game and predicts we cud want to look at 1 poss 2 on trial! apparently there are a couple of Donny based players. Looking forward to game and giving him some feedback at side of a footy pitch tmoz.

A deserved 2 all draw for the Avenue, seriously though the score doesn't matter as long as the players don't let themselves down like they did last year, then the Avenue fans would go home  happy.
We did hold you to a 3 all draw in pre season, and you had a strong eleven out then so I don't think Deano will underestimate us,we do like to pass the ball, which we can overdo and it bites us in the bum,we haven't kept a clean sheet in 26 games,so to get anything we will have to score.
Regarding something I read on other threads; 1-We reformed in the Sunday league, but have been in the pyramid for 25 years,a long 25 years but we are now at the highest league position since the league days.
2; The squad we have was belittled in one thread, but we have ex Donny players in Player coach/ass.manager Mark Hume,Club captain Rob O'Brien and Full Back Martin Drury. We realistically have a squad of 13 plus a 2nd keeper and Humey making the numbers up,the rest of the squad are long term injured,we have coped remarkably well in the circumstances, just hope it isn't one game too many.

Anyway lets hope for a good game and best of luck to whoever makes the next round.

UP THE AVENUE.
