Young the lads 22 and he's costing us games, I dare say my handling and shotstopping is better that that lads.
Personally I think his kicking isn't bad at all. He is about the only two footed player we have got.
Shame really, as he's had a good season thus far and probably will continue too at this level. Only a matter of time before all his good work and development is forgotten for one mistake, that unfortunately was a mistake and cost us a goal.He has played his part and had many a mom performance in our backs to the wall style and how soon that is forgotten. His punching and claiming crosses, whilst not Cech class, is very much improving from where it was. As for his kicking, lay off the lad for crying out loud, he's clearly playing too instruction from Deano ie kick the ball out short to one of our players, or hold onto it and wait til CB/BP are set. He is so deliberate in doing that, that it's clearly a tactic and instruction set by the coaching staff. I would be shocked to find out, it's actually his doing.People need to take their hate goggles off and actually look wider and the bigger picture, than simply a Woods' mistake. Why was a player allowed to walk through the middle of the pitch quite slowly really (midfielders), why did he get a shot in so tamely (defenders), why the hell is Browny running from the centre circle to try and close him down on the right side edge of our box? Martis has done OK when called upon, but only a matter of time before the fans' wrath comes down on him again. We simply wait for it to happenDitto Kyle, Ditto M Woods, Ditto Cotts, Ditto Keegan. These are the type of players that will be quiet on here when we are winning or they are going through the game un-noticed (aka playing well, but they won't bring themselves to say that), but the first mistake they make or a run of defeats and then it will be these chappies that will generally cop for it. No matter what the others do and what mistakes they make, it will be forgotten and turned to these lads. Bless em
Good for him that he's learning his trade. I hope he does learn it and learns it well, but sadly I don't believe that wrapping him in cotton wool and whispering sweet nothings into his ear in the hope that he'll develop into a good goalkeeper in 5 years time is good enough for us at the moment. There's no room for sentiment in a football team, and I feel that just because we signed him as a youngster and brought him up through the ranks, a lot of our fans are very protective of him. It's the only explanation I can find as to why so many people seem to think he's done well for us. It's alright for us fans to get all misty eyed about jumpers for goalposts and all that, but you still want to see the best players playing for your team and you want to see them winning.I'm not saying Woods is the worst keeper in the world, nor am I saying he does everything wrong or that he's the only reason we lose games, but that doesn't automatically make him good enough to be our keeper. People always say "but he's made some good saves". Well, I should f***ing well hope he does, he's a professional footballer who plays in goal. What about all the stuff he does wrong, and continues to get wrong even after a decent run as first team keeper? The fact that his positioning is awful, that he doesn't set himself right for long shots so they're always in danger of squirming under him, his alarming lack of ability to save shots that aren't almost straight at him, that he can't command his area and is woeful on crosses. That's a lot of complaints to have about a 3rd tier goalkeeper and he isn't really improving on any of them. Maybe, just maybe, he isn't quite good enough to be a first-team goalkeeper. You do get 'em, you know: keepers who are capable of saving a shot and kicking it out of their hands, but who you wouldn't trust to do it for 90 minutes. Woods is exactly that. He's a decent reserve goalie.
