David Syers
« on November 27, 2012, 11:21:32 pm by SIRFRAN »
First home game I've been this season, was impressed with Syers! I thought he changed the game when he came on today! A willing runner and increased the tempo and threat from midfield that was lacking prior to his introduction!

Poor performance tonight but so good saying that and having 3pts after years of saying we were great but got nothing!

He gave us a much needed energy boost tonight, think he was just what we needed at just the right time. You'd imagine he'll be pushing for a start Saturday along with a few others who didn't start tonight, hopefully Clingan can get a start.

Syers impressed earlier in the season but seemed to lose his way a bit. His ball retention and passing hasn't been the best but there's no doubt he can add a different ingredient than our other midfield players.

He, along with Clingan, just gave us enough to make a difference tonight.

Was quite rightly dropped to the bench after some lack-lustre performances. Good to see a much imroved David Syers again tonight.

Until Syers came on the midfield was poor tonight! Clingan, keegan and harper are to similar to me! Thought keegan did a lot of work though, put a shift in! Harper was poor and clingan doesn't seem match fit - lookin forward to seeing him when he's a bit sharper!

There was too much just hoofing it forward up until Syers came on. Once he came on it was all us for a period. Changed the game.

Think Syers has suffered in recent 442's be it in the centre or out wide. Having 2 players behind him in the middle gives him the freedom to be more energetic and involved at the right end of the pitch.

I think Syers and Clingan could be a great partnership. Have Syers running about and Clingan retaining the ball when we need and picking the passes. Could be a bit like our Doolan/Green midfield dynamo in Penney's team.

Good shout!

I think until Clingan's fully up to pace, I think he'll stick with Keegan for the time being for a bit if insurance. I think Harper had a reasonable game on Saturday but didn't contribute much tonight again so for me, he's the one most at risk at the moment.

I'm not a keegan fan but thought he ran his socks of tonight, full of effort and determination!

With harper we were playing midfield in our half. As soon as Syers came on we were putting presure on in there half which led to the goal. Great move by DS. Give him these next 2 cup matches and he could have his starting place back. Harper on to shut the game down. Winning 4-0 is great but these scrappy 1-0 are gold dust and the ones that could get us premoted. Teams will fear us now and thats a good place to be

I don't think Syers is ever going to be that technical midfield player that can sit and dictate a game for 90 minutes. What he is good at though is adding some energy to proceedings, and bursting into the box to give the defenders something else to think about when it isn't quite dropping for our strikers.

I like what I've seen from him so far, and in my opinion it's only a matter of time until things start going for him and he starts getting his name on the scoresheet. I think the comparison to Greeny is a fair one - not the greatest technician, but a great engine and an eye for a goal.

Agree, my MoM tonight. Was in the right places, worked and gave his all, and don't recall him putting a foot wrong.

Spot on with the comparison with Greeney that's how i see him as well,i think we need that type of player in the side, making the late run into the box, especially at home and the away team is playing for the draw,i see him getting into the side regular over the second-half of the season.

Syers made a big difference and it was the sub I was saying we should've made.  No slant on Harper he played alright, just a different player required.

I did think though that Keegan was our MOTM, one of his best games for us winning a lot of tackles last night.

Yep, I'm glad he's getting a bit of recognition, he played out of his skin vs Hull in the League Cup and got two very good goals, performances after haven't been anywhere near as what he can produce, but he certainly did add something last night, and his ball through to Brown, where Brown put it wide was very good!

I think theres a lot of player for player similarities in this team with the 03/04 team and I certainly think Syers could be the Greeny of this team. He's got the energy all over the pitch, has a goal threat on the ground and in the air and breaks beyond strikers. Defensively in a 442 he hasn't looked great alongside Harper but that will come with games (or a fully fit Clingan!).

Strangely enough we did but then again we did miss out most of the midfield for most of the game too.
