Can't believe that there are not better managers out there! Dickov and Appleton very very underwhelming!! Really hope it's not either but unfortunately looks inevitable now! Genuinely can't see what the club could see in either of them but hope to be proven wrong!! Don't see how either match most of JRs required characteristics either TBH!

Because they've got plenty of contacts obviously! That's what they look for in potential manager's now apparently.

As has kinda been said, its not all about the manager at our club. Its also not just about the manager fitting into a slot, its about him being able to flourish within our clubs team. We have JR, Gavin, Flynn and Jones - all megaliths in their own way. Whoever comes in will not have to restructure anything major, he'll be fully supported and be coming into the DRFC family, much as Moyes has at Man U and his successor will do at Everton.

Its looking bright to me  :scarf:

Name them?

Why isn't it possible that these 2 are the best 2 candidates from those who applied who meet the criteria the board has set?

If we don't know who the other applicants were, how can we judge?  So what if Dickov was the first choice from day one, surely it makes sense for the board to invite other applicants just in case someone else fits the bill better?

I don't have a problem with all of this, why do so many on here?

Let JR and the board do their thing, and let's all get behind the team whoever the new manager is, and support the team FFS!!!!

Why are folks pre-judging these guys so much instead of supporting the club?

If it ends up being Dickov or appleton what a compete waste of time these last few weeks have been. We could have got one of them in place, because they're unemployed, and then made sure we kept the players we want and start to sign some of our targets quickly. We have wasted the time we gained by not having to go up through the play offs

Rosler, Jackett, and probably even Grayson! Fair enough they may not have applied but from memory SOD did not apply for the job, JR headhunted him! Especially now as Rosler has not gone up I can't believe he wud not be interested in coming to a club the league above! Just very underwhelmed by a manager that nearly got his club relegated a league below and another who will jump ship for a quick buck and has no real experience! Just my IMO, I will support whoever comes in and like I say I hope to be proven wrong!!

Dickov or Appleton ?

Didn't Our man on the inside (SM) say only 1 one of the final 4 applicants  were unemployed.
If that's true  then they both can't be in the final 2.

The original shortlist was 4 candidates.  3 more were added.

We'll all know soon enough now.

Well let's hope he lasts a bit longer than the last 2 jobs, wasn't that 65 days at Blackpool and 67 days at Blackburn?

Appleton is a well respected coach within the game and has worked with some top bosses. He has something to prove after the recent two spells, which I am sure he will have learned from. I think he has the potential to be a good appointment, and ticks far more boxes than Dickov.

Not happy with Dickov or Appleton tbh, but, it's not my decision.

I saw Dickov down at the Keepmoat before one of the home games (Yeovil or Hartlepool I think) so, unfortunatley, I would say it's him.

I don't see Appleton being a John Ryan choice, because I think he'd jump ship given half a chance at a better job, e.g. Blackpool too Blackburn.

Filo

I understand you are right. I was told a couple of weeks ago that JR wanted to appoint Dickov straight away but Brammall and Watson wanted to see who would throw their hat in the ring before they decided.

So i would guess from the process that has taken place the prospective candidates weren't that great dispite the so called top quality applicants line from club, personally i will be hugely disappointed if Dickov or Appleton gets the job, however i wasn't that impressed with Flynn's appointment as always though i will get behind the manager and trust JR as he has never let us down yet.

It's better to be underwhelmed....

At least everyone will keep their feet on the floor.

In relative terms, when we got Dave MacKay/Joe Kinnear as managers; they were big names/big reputations.
Result = abject failure.

Carl Alford, Justin Jackson came with big reputations
Result = abject failure

Whoever is successful today WILL bring a lot good qualities. The club have been through a rigourous interview process with the people that applied for the job.

There may have been others sounded out. We probably will never know who.
That happens in business. It happens all the time in football, not just management, but on the playing side too.

Article on the BBC page
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/22582779

John Ryan said the shortlist had been cut to two candidates, but refused to comment on speculation the pair were Paul Dickov and Michael Appleton
"I'm not going to discuss any names as I don't think it's fair, but we have spoken to them.

"I am not confirming they're [former Oldham boss Dickov and ex-Blackpool manager Appleton] the final two."

Ryan said they also wanted to bring a number of new players to the Keepmoat Stadium as they prepare to make the step up to the Championship, with a goalkeeper top of the list.

"We've got a list of players we think we could do with signing and we'll put it to the new manager and see if he agrees.

"If he doesn't agree then he'll have to provide alternatives. We need certain players in certain positions and we've identified them in the main."

He continued: "We want a top class goalkeeper, which is no reflection on Gary [Woods] who's had a great season, but the Championship is a new level and in reality we're looking for a new number one."
"If we can add a bit of real class to what is a strong and powerful team, we can make an impression in the Championship.

"Everyone says if you finish fourth from bottom it will be a great achievement - well, in some ways it might, but I'd rather finish fourth from top," he added.

"I don't want to have a realistic aim, I want to have an unrealistic aim which is getting in the Premier League.

"Anything can happen and you've got to go into the new season with a really positive attitude and say smaller teams than us have done it."

That all sounds good to me, positivity about our aims for the future.

Also, with the club having already identified transfer targets it seems the importance of the manager at our club is gaining somewhat less significance. Maybe he will be appointed as Head Coach instead?

I may be mistaken but I don't think teams smaller than us HAVE 'done it' if he's speaking about making the Premier League since maybe Swindon or Oldham, and this was back before money became everything.

Do people consider them smaller than us? I wouldn't have thought so.

Saying that, I forgot about Wigan...

I'd say they're about similar. Maybe only a tiny bit bigger.
