Great appointment and here's why..

In my opinion Flynn is a fantastic appointment by the club, fantastic. I will attempt to explain why.

Many years ago a club from Wales with ambitions of grandeur going by the name of Swansea were in danger of going out of the league and business. A certain individual is responsible for putting the building blocks in place such as youth system, attitude to football and the way its played and also involvement in appointing a young and upcoming manager who could learn off him.... Roberto Martinez.

Another reason.... regarded as one of the best finders of talent in British football, worked  with Wales youth team and achieved their greatest ever results for them and developed and worked with loads of up and coming footballers who all speak of him very highly and say he is one of the nicest and best coaches they have worked with. (Bale,Bellamy to name 2)

Maybe the chance of some decent yougsters coming in.... I know for a fact that he is very good friends with Sir Alex Ferguson who calls him 'One of the nicest men in football', whos to say that maybe we might get to see some decent up and coming young players from across the Pennnines coming to play for us.

Also, and what I feel is most pertinent..... Why change anything that isnt broken, yes Saunders was the manager.... but just how influential was Flynn in the side and the way it played? Flynn would almost certainly have been above Saunders advising him and helping him in any way possible as he is a deeply experienced manager. Experience, respect and clearly knows enough about the side to say he is 'excited'.

Great appointment and I am absolutely chuffed to bits, this guy is very talented and will be able to nurture and advise Jones and maybe just maybe do what he did with Swansea. Highly respected with a wealth of knowledge about league 1, the teams in it and the players who play for them.

Well done JR, would have been very easy to change things and alter the way things are done, but yet again for me, a brilliant appointment.

I suspect he was the plan B all along, even before DS left. JR said almost as much to the lads on the first day after DS departed - nothing's going to change etc., cheers JR for winning me a few hundred squids!

Agree fully Oggy. 

In addition one of my worries would be losing Cotts (IMHO with Jones our most difficult player to replace), and as well as the continuity in remarkable team & club spirit, it is possible that Flynn's Welsh connections might help keep Cotts with us

Yeah I think the lads who have come through the youth system in Wales will all know of or met Flynn. I am honestly very excited about our future, Flynn will have contacts absolutely everywhere and the way the team sounds and the noises coming out of the club are great to hear. Its great to be proud of your club again after a tumultuous couple of seasons.

I love the little huddles after the match and the clear comaradery the team have. Its really great to see and after the news about Adkins, I think we are blessed to have a chairman like we do, grounded, decisive and more importantly loves the club. We are worlds away from the conference days. Own stadium, making money and a good fighting team ethic... great time to be a Rovers fan and all to do with the big man JR.

Just a quick thought, (and I am not belittling DS before anyone thinks so), but as Scout, won't Brian Flynn have had a hand in ALL DS'S signings? Wouldn't he have watched or researched each player before they signed.

You'd have thought so newyankee, yes. Flynn is renowned as a wonderful scout around the UK and his knowledge of players and in particular youngsters would have to be right up there with the best on the island. Cotterill is welsh so is Flynn.... not sure, did he have a say? Was he a factor? Maybe.... I hope so with Wolves buzzing around.

I have a mutual friend with a Welsh international who played under Flynn in the Wales U-21. Obviously when Flynn was announced as caretaker manager I had a good number of questions about him! In short, Flynn is extremely popular with those who have played under him. He's extremely knowledgeable and is an excellent man-manager. This particular player actually said he now wants a move to the Rovers!

If reports are right about one of our players potentially leaving, we could certainly do a lot worse than this guy as a replacement. It was probably just a throwaway comment to emphasise how highly he thinks of Flynn though.
