JR's favourite

Just as he looked like he was getting to grips with the Premier League, it looks like Nigel Adkins is getting the boot.

We need a physio don't we?

Utterly bonkers that saints have let him go...the madness continues.

l1 to 15th in premiership, saints just starting to cope with the premiership.  what does a manager have to do.

bloody good manager and would love to see him at rovers one day

Disgusting , if I were the players I'd go on strike until he's re-instated. Does the owner expect them to be challenging for Europe or something ?!

It's stuff like this that realy gets my goat. It was the same with SOD at Forest FFS, MONEY WILL KILL FOOTBALL  :suicide:

Football will be a better place when the "money men" pull out and leave it to Chairmen & Boards that CARE for the club like our own JR. A few clubs may fall by the wayside they will rebuild, look at us!  :rtid:

Some clubs really have to manage their expectations more sensibly. If he keeps them in the PL then, IMO, he has been a success. Alas he will  not get the chance

Looks like the Argie was lined up some time ago...

Would absolutely love him to take a break for a bit and then come and manage us in the Championship.

The world has officially gone mad, I've been watching the Saints results this season hoping they'd stay up but now I hope they go down!! Nothing more than the board deserve, I just feel for the fans!! :headbang:

Come on mate, that's a bit of a contradiction. You can't say you feel sorry for the fans (who I imagine are outraged by this), then say you hope they go down! I personally wish them well.

Anyhow I can't see Adkins being out of management for long. Hopefully he will take his time though, because if not I can see him quickly ending up at Leicester/Birmingham/Wednesday/Blackburn where he won't get given a chance, and end up getting sacked after a couple of months. Far too many decent managers are left on the scrap heap these days.

It's pretty much proven that you don't get success in the long term by chopping and changing your manager every 2 seconds. Unfortunately, lots of clubs don't tend to realise that.

Who knows, maybe there were a few home truths.

No matter the case, why the guy who replaced him? isn't that the bloke who hacked down Owen in that 2002 World Cup game v Argentina?

He's regarded as a very good manager.

And no he's not the guy who hacked down Owen. He's the guy who stood there whilst Owen dived to win a pen.

Yeah, him too.

Just looking at his history, doesn't seem too bad an appointment really. Would love to know what made them pull the trigger though.

I think it was when O'Driscoll was replaced by McLeish that the Forest board spoke of appointing a manager who was able to attract the best players. Perhaps the Southampton board felt the same about Adkins - he wasn't fashionable enough to secure some bigger name players (and Saints are certainly not afraid to spend the money needed for these types of players).

You clearly missed the bit where I said "nothing more than the board deserve" i.e. going down but yes I feel for the fans. Sadly unless you have a chairman like JR the fans don't count to most football club boards/owners.

Good point TWD that's one of the reasons I binned it some years ago....I wish others would too and put them and the 'greedy' clubs who 'need' the lion's share!! Yes I was being sarcastic.

A good piece in the Fiver about this.

Sacked for Excellence!

http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2013/jan/18/the-fiver-against-modern-football

Also it's interesting to read UEFA have given Ajax a hefty fine because their fans had the temerity to display a banner reading "AGAINST MODERN FOOTBALL" in the game against Man City.

I don't get that one at all , is it racist, sexist, homophobic perhaps ? Of course not it happens to be the truth. We now have fines for speaking the truth fellow footy fans .........this proves those Ajax supporters were indeed correct in their assertion. Oh the irony eh ?

If you didn't scan down to the end, it has a nice little sign off too...

Manchester United have agreed a three-year deal with Japanese manufacturer Kansai as their official paint partner.

Yes.

You read that correctly.

Against modern football.

Adkins did a fantastic job there,he had a ropey start when they first got up to the Premier league,a lot of teams do this, but the difference between Southampton and others is,i'm almost certain they would have stayed up,they've got a very good strike force, the only criticism would be didn't seem to be playing Lambert in quite a few games, but he saw him in training everyday, the midfield has massive potential, with some brilliant ball players in there, maybe a little open, but loads of talent, the defence after a poor start,he had tightened them up,the only weakness was the keeper.

How he could have been sacked is unbelievable, the guy has turned the whole club around, the owners seem to be running the club like the Italian's do,no stability, the club will for me,probably go backwards, unless they get someone better than, which is unlikely,i'm very happy with our appointment of Flynn and Jones,i think we've got the right match for our club.
