Cheapest option. Best option?
« on January 17, 2013, 04:28:33 pm by mrfrostsdad »
So, now we know.
Brian Flynn assisted by Rob Jones until the end of the season. To be expected really when you take everything into consideration.

There were over 150 applications. Yeah, some right numpties I guess as well. The board know Brian and Rob.

They know the financial situation. Little or no money for new players. 'New' managers always want money for new players.

No compensation to pay to another club.

'Hit the ground running' seamless is probably the modern term.

Probably lower salaries than some of the big names being bandied around.

Is it the right appointment? Only time will tell. Lets hope so

Makes sense to me. Some continuity and minimise upheaval half way through the season. Good decision all things considered.

Maybe a bit of cash available for 1 or 2 players by not having to employ a new man and saving a little on wages?

No probs at all.  I'd trust JR on any managerial appointment he chose to make as his record on this is excellent.  Good luck to the pair of them and hopefully on 27th April we can talk about "The Twins' Title"

I've hoped this would be the final decision ever since the pair were made caretakers. Flynn and Jones seem to be pumped up for the rest of the season and this can only improve the feeling and desire among the squad. Hopefully they can bring in a couple of players before the close of the transfer window (missing the transfer window was My main concern about the interview process). The appointment of the pair is also the best answer to many fans calls for continuity. All in all, when looking at it, its hard to find anything wrong with this decision. Hopefully it'll result in us giving Orient a paggering on Saturday. :P

COME ON YOU HOOOOOPS!!!! :scarf:

Strange timing, all the talk this week was about drawing a shortlist so it seems strange to go for this now. I can only think that the players have piped up and said they want Flynn and Jones to stay on. In any case, can't complain at all about this, gives us the continuity we need and we get to act fast in the transfer market too.

It's very strange timing! I think Brian Flynn is a great appoinment but why go to all the trouble of talking about a Plan B, which this clearly isn't otherwise it would have been announced immediately. There are two things I don't like about it. I dislike kneejerk reactions which this smacks of. If we had lost last Saturday would Brian still have got the job? Secondly, if the board is that confident about the appointment why not give him a proper contract and not just until the end of the season? It seems now that if we don't get promotion Flynny will go but could it also mean that someone else is being lined up for the end of the season come what may? Maybe Rob Jones? Either way it puts the new manager under massive pressure and it doesn't end all the speculation about who will be the next man in which can be unsettling for all concerned.

Just got JR on RS, he seems to be confirming what I first thought: that we had drawn up a shortlist, which Flynn was on, but that the players had made their feelings known and helped R make his mind up. That speaks volumes for the team spirit, and we know that at least the players are all in this together.

Definitely the cheapest & probably the best option,at least until the end of this season. No drastic changes needed, but would be nice to see some of the windfall from Saunders leaving being invested in strengthening the squad.

Was he the plan B?

Yes but it can also be motivating, all in it together for the manager and team. If we win the league it will have to be a very brave chairman with a bloody good candidate to replace Flynn. You know how loyal JR is. If we dont even get into the play-offs, say no more.

I'm happy with the decision. Whether there was a number one target in mind (who turned out to be unavailable) we may never know. I don't believe the club ever intended going through an interview process but followed tradition in these situations to buy time until the decision was made for them.

In this situation, where we are in the league etc., better the devil you know. For now.

As mentioned above my concern is around the back room staff and now, being responsible for player movement, how well will Flynn manage players in or out?

Anyway, very best wishes to them both. I'm sure we are right behind them.

So , they've led him on, but little Mac Wilson never was in the running. This stinks! I hate this club!

Whooo hang on, I know this should be in the rumour mill but I heard he was offered it and turned it down as he has to be in bed by 9.00pm so couldn't make any evening games. Think its been kept quite so it doesnt upset the new team.

I think Baz may be right. I think we had someone in mind who for whatever reason wasn't available. It could still be revisited in the summer.

Better to wait and get the right man rather than to rush into an appointment, especially when the route we've chosen ensures continuity.

I agree and guessing Robins is that man.
