timeline
« on January 27, 2013, 07:26:09 am by viking87 »
Over the christmas period I went ice skating at the nottingham ice centre, as I stood in the queue I noticed a brilliant timeline on the wall. It was so intriguing, I can't remember everything on it but the pictures and layout was class.

It covered historic events, sporting and olympics, war to name a few things.
The point is, I could stare at one of these for ages to try to memorize all the dates.

I know there is on-going talks on how to improve the stand concourses, I think if the club were to educate through the history of events tied in with rovers history it would be great for everyone. For example; people of all ages who want to learn more through the infusion of sport, new comers to the ground who don't know much about our club. Plus it would be great to look at.

Any thoughts?

I was thinking more 1879 to present/future. It does get the brain ticking for ideas of say a roman/viking mural?. .  What primary did you go to oslo?

First Zulu War (the one Michael Caine served in)
Milk served in bottles for the first time
First test match hat-trick
First F W Woolworth's shop opens
Blackpool illuminations displayed for first time
Thomas Edison demonstrates electric light

Other clubs formed include: Fulham, Swindon, Sunderland, Scarborough and Montrose
Old Etonians win the FA Cup for the first time, Vale of Leven the Scotish Cup

In case you think I actually know these things...

A few of us briefly touched on these kind of things a few weeks ago, definitely things I'd like to see the club pursue, but they can't do everything in one go, lots of time for these things yet...

Yeh understood its in a long list of things the club would want to do first. I'm sure a paint job is high up there.

Red and white hoops throughout!! RTID

I've got a timeline down my Hampton, from 1993 to present day. All them wrinkles tell a different story.

Is there not a timeline in the pavement near to the Mansion House - we could use that, get it moved to KMS

Rovers timeline could incorporate the Rovers v Bristol Rovers  videowhich are the first match recorded of Rovers in the mid 50's nd show Gregg and Jeffrey in action . International match clips of Gegg , Graham, McMorran, Lawlor exist too. We could show  clips of Rovers most memorable matches  by incorporating TV monitors n the timeline.

Broaden the scope to include some of the non-Rovers local history.  The local museums could help with the material, they're a treasure trove of local history.

An interactive timeline is a great idea. Have a button underneath ones that have footage.

I've got a few ideas to make the place look wicked...

Walls painted red and white hoops is obviously a must. One or two walls with the blue and yellow cross, photos of memorable moments dotted about, maybe vintage shirts in cases spread about with their year and a bit of info underneath (league, best victory, top goal scorer etc) Don't know what's been mentioned before but this would all look fab I think

As has been posted before, this is something we've discussed with the club on a few occasions, but at the moment it is about priorities. It's still on our radar though.

It's the little things that make the place feel like home. I still hate the keepmoat, but stuff like this helps.

Great idea.

Paint job should be first on their list of priorities too, imo.

First thing to do is a paint job throughout the concourses.

An experienced team of volunteers is the best option.
Qualified team leader(s) to run the show.
Best time to commence work is in the closed football season.

Paint and equipment could be heavily discounted or free to an extent in exchange for specials thanks from rovers in the free press to the local company, advertising the company in the match day programmes. This is good business. Thoughts?

Did see this post until after I wrote my last one, just incase you thought I was going on like a broken record.

Well I've not been on here for a while until recently so I'm unfamiliar with past posts in my defence, but its good news its in the clubs radar

It IS a priority and in the scheme of things probably one of the cheaper things on the list to achieve but one of the best in terms of impact.

Sad t**t that I am, I still have that vase too.

Given to all us schoolkids in 1974 to mark the end of the County Borough Council of Doncaster (1927 - 1974) when it became DMBC.

Two thirds actual size, glass copy of a clay Roman drinking vessel found at a pottery site in the town.

Original is (was) in the town museum.

So have I! It's used these days to hold any £2 coins I get, I live in hope that one day I might be able to buy something useful with it! Been saving 'em for about 3 years now too.
