General Footy Section?
« on February 04, 2013, 11:22:05 am by MartinB »
Been looking at the forum and wondered is it worth us having a general football chat section? Viking section is about our common love of DRFC the Off Topic is a general mix of Politics, Music etc...

We ALL obviously love football but not all things are DRFC what would people think to a non DRFC football section where people could discuss other parts of football?

No don't think it would work I only tend to go on here and think another section would be hardly used

Personally, speaking as a Mod, I would n`t be that bothered about another section, it`s just more areas to keep an eye on when we get the influx of idiots that seem to plague us from time to time. That`s just my personal opinion, and as always if I`m a minority amongst the admin and mod team then I`ll go along with the majority opinion

I think it is a good idea, purely because there is some confusion where non-Rovers related chat goes. However would it be utilised well enough or will we just keep posting big talking points on football in this section?

You can usually tell what the thread is about from the title. If it doesn't interest you don't read it.

GazLaz: this is not a pop at anyone or any thread that is put on here...we all obviously like football, I just thought a general football chat area may be popular too, as this area is generally designated for all things DRFC. I'd like to have heard/read thoughts in the past on many subjects in general from posters on this site...Popovs spitting incident, Balotelli going, Peter Odemwhingie saga...all from this week just as examples. Right now it doesn't seem to fit into off topic or viking chat.

The forum worked best (the old/old one that is) when it was one big forum with no sub-sections or 'topics'. I still use it like that, I only go to the 'see unread posts' so couldn't actually tell you what sections there are. So in that way it wouldn't bother me if there was another section, I would just ignore it and view all the posts anyway.

Agree Wilts...the old forum did used to have a lot more on there and seemed to be a great side. This new forum still feels a lot like the Keepmoat, fancier, more efficent and looks better...but still not BV!

Maybe we could just change the description of the category?

I was an advocate of this idea a while back. Maybe it wouldn't be used much but right now this board is allegedly designated for 'all things Rovers' as it should be while the off-topic is for non-football, leaving a bit of a glaring hole for general football.

How about we change the "All things Rovers" to "All things Rovers (and footy chat in general)"?

We had this debate when we launched the revamped site and the general feeling was Viking Chat was OK for all footy related chat (because they usually come round to how they affect the Rovers anyway).

What about a 'football trivia' sub-section? Like the 'rate the ref'...

Think that would be good, just look at the 'Name The Player' thread for proof!

RTR, I think a little change has happened recently where this part has become a general football chat area too recently..and it's a good thing. We can all laugh at the likes of Forest together rather than go over the same old negative stuff simply because we aren't playing much I'm sure come game time this section will be all Rovers again...but it will be almost like a return to the older forum..only with a better platform & server! :rtid:

Most general footy posts have a Rovers aspect to them anyway.

Agreed. There is no place for general footy but it does end up on here anyway, leaving it wide open to some smart-arse saying "what`s this gotta do with Rovers?"

Another section, though probably the logical solution, would probably as others have mentioned, get over-looked.
