Cant believe all the conspirency theorists on here.

Read the statement again.  JR will desing a home and away kit and it will be included in the poll.  Simple.

The fans still get to vote on the kit.  simple.

Fans still being engaged?  yup.

Fail to see what the problem is really; JR can submit kit designs, what harm is there?

Quite a tough call this isn't it? On the one hand there's the promise of an open competition with the most favoured designs chosen by the customers going forwards. A smashing idea that encapsulates the revival of the engagement with fans. Risking that would likely cause significant ill will. So on that basis, the answer is put them forwards to a vote John.

But, and it's a very big but indeed, John has earned the right to what he damn well likes with the Rovers. Without him there really would be no club at all now. It's his money, his dream, his hard work, his heartache, his drive, his judgement that has got us back to being a club worth supporting. So, on that basis, just wang in your ideas John and we'll all fall in line.

How do you make a judgement between those two points of view? I'm not sure I can - except on a purely visceral basis. So, although it's worth nothing at all, I'd let him go ahead.

It just smacks of the little rich kid who wants his own way. Why can't we see his designs? Why do we have to vote on DRFC's e-mail? Why do we have to suck up to John Ryan? I feel sorry for the guys that produced some stunning designs that must have taken some time and effort, only for the rich kid to throw a strop and stamp his feet until he gets what he wants.

Because it's his money, his time and his foresight Nudga. I don't necessarily agree with it. But ultimately he who pays the piper and all that. Still bad form, but we live in a real world you know. The opinions of plebs don't often count. We have the word of a very senior Tory politician confirming that.

It's not just his money though is it, there are other money men on the board. But ultimately, it's our money that will be buying the shirts. As long as JR gets to dress up his eleven action men then that's ok.

I just don't get why the club would give it's fans the green light to design a kit and then vote for their favourite only to throw a spanner in the works and more than likely end up with something shit like that god awful light blue thing we had.

No conspiracy. It's just obvious that Johns choice will get the nod.

You only need look down this thread to see how many people say words to the effect JR can have what ever he likes.

Why is it obvious people will vote for JR's kit. There seems like a few on here are going to vote against/for a different kit without even seeing what he has to offer. Those voting not on this forum won't know and I reckon the rest of us will vote for the one we thinks looks best cos at the end of the day we are the ones who buy and wear the kit

I'm afraid this whole thing makes me (and others it seems) suspicious that a screwjob is underway to take the fans choice out of contention again!

I'm not overly bothered but after the farce that was "fans get to choose the away kit" for this season it does rankle a bit.

I tend to agree with you, we were asked to submit 5 of each (which we've done democratically) and now asmuch as we all love our JR two more are about to enter the poll.
Problem I have with this is if you say NO he can't it then looks as if we don't love the fella ......which we all do. If we say YES on the otherhand it looks as though 2 kits that weren't on the original list (easily identifiable btw) could be miraculously voted in which defeats the whole idea of the process put forward by IRWT.
Sorry JR , as much as I love you in a 'manlove' kind of way, it would be a big NO you can't from me as you are defeating the whole object of the exercise. However like all the other fans you have the opportunity to cast your vote for your choices to be shortlisted in the same way as we all have and as one of us that is democratic. I know you will understand that creating such a precedent for you would undermine both this process and any initiatives of this nature in the future.

This is a tricky call but I knew the people for this idea would use the reason of "well JR should get anything he likes because of all he's done". That attitude shouldn't stretch to this, it isn't relevant as someone else pointed out. If John told us all to walk off a cliff would we do it because of "all he's done"?

Him entering the running at this stage undermines the whole thing and the secretive nature of it all suggests that some behind the scenes sly fixing is underway. I don't think people are being silly or over-the-top to assume that.
