Coventry City Predictions
« on March 27, 2013, 08:29:33 am by Belle-Vue-Ghost »
Assuming that we still have a game on Friday  I feel that this is a game we HAVE to win going into April.  Now before everyone jumps on me, we have a really tough month in April.  Swindon, Tranmere and Brentford especially will really be going for it against us and we'll need to match them.  I just want us to go into the final month well in front and with some room for error.

And we will, but it wont be a smooth ride.......

3-2 Rovers  :scarf:

Coventry have been very poor at home this season. They are where they are because of their brilliant (only second to us) away form.

All that should point to a Rovers victory, but football is never that simple is it?

Still, I'm going for a very comfortable 3-1 to top what has been a miserable week for the Sky Blues...

This weekend could be the banana skin we are all hoping against. Both these teams could turn us over and I fear it happening. Coventry 3 Rovers 1 and Rovers 1 Swindon 2

I rather think the Coventry match depends upon their manager and the mood he manages to create. If they adopt an 'us against the world' attitude, we could easily get beaten. If they simply fold, we could win handsomely. I don't know which way to go though. Swindon is hard too. Our home form is patchy at best. Their home form hasn't been great but their away form is brilliant.

I'm going to cop out. 1 point from both games is about the best I can manage. Depends on Coventry's mood though tbh.

They're not fantastic at home. Even worse than us in fact.

16th best home form in the division over the season: W6 D6 L8
Last 8 games at home since turn of year: W3 D1 L4

Lost at home to Shrewsbury, Yeovil, Crewe and Swindon in 2013.
Drawn against Colchester
Beat Tranmere, Oldham and Hartlepool

Last five home matches have yielded 1 win, 1 draw and 3 defeats - third worst record in the division.

By comparison, we of course have by far and away the best away record in the division.

Since the turn of the year, our away form is W4 D1 L2.

Last five away matches, our record is W3 D1 L1.

Yet the bookies have Coventry at 8/5 and us at 2/1.

Fill yer boots lads.

I am finding it very difficult to make predictions based on head rather than heart at the moment.  Just that nervy/twitchy part of the season.  So with intense willpower my head says ........
Coventry v Rovers         1-2
Rovers v Swindon          1-1

I have also re done the BBC predictor and get us still promoted as Champions but tbh there was a fair mix of head and heart went into that!

Actually, the way in which we are consistently underestimated in bookies odds is very interesting. We saw that when we were in the Championship, with our odds in matches often being significantly longer than those of teams in similar form playing opponents with similar ability.

Now consider this one: On Friday, if the match goes ahead, the team with the best away form in the division (us) is playing away at the team with the 16th best home form (Coventry). The odds are 8/5 for Cov & 19/10 for us. That means that our odds are 1.68 times those of Coventry. Coventry are clear favourites for the match.

Then on Monday, the side with the 12th best home form (us) play the side with the 4th best away form (Swindon). Our odds are 13/8 and Swindon's 17/10. So Swindon are favourites! Their odds are 0.96 as long as ours.

And it's not really an issue of relative form against good sides. As it happens, Coventry, Swindon and Donny have the three best records in the division against other top half sides, with little to choose between them.

And it can't be down to recent form. We have better form than either Swindon or Coventry over recent games.

It seems to be a built-in bias against us. We are seen by the punters as a side that is not as good as its league position suggests, so we get longer odds than a side of our strength and form would expect.

I suspect there'd be some money to be made from a careful, systematic approach to betting on us.

With Donny getting 13 wins from 20 away from home and Cov only getting 6 wins from their 20 games, as you say, odds of 19/10 seem far too long. Evens would be about fair I reckon.

Swindon odds seem about right though. They've collected 3 points in 52% of their away games compared to Rovers home tally of 42%. We were totally underpriced for the title too for ages. Wish I'd had a tenner on when we were 16+/1. No doubt MadMick had the professional foresight to cash in his gold-futures and put a wad on though.

The problem I have is that our fantastic away record was pretty much down to another manager, maybe one of you stat guys out there could work out our percentages under Flynn but I'm pretty sure that they've slumped somewhat.

I can really see us struggling in this game and us getting a draw at best.

But you could equally say Swindon's away form was because of Di Canio and they are still favourites. Top of the league and underdogs!

I support Us, as in my town that I belong, hence Us. I've been to watch the U's v Us, but never really been a fan of the U's. Thanks for asking though

In what respect?

As in Donna Summer I feel love

As in a bit of genital sword fighting

As in a DRFC bro-love

Let me check....
Seems to be best described as a DRFC bro genital sword thang. Not sure about the fighting bit though. I'm a bit tender at the moment. Flynn has recently employed me as the squads 'muscle easement receptical' (apparently he deployed one for the Welsh U21's with great success). What with the blip a few weeks ago, and the return of that deviant Mark Wilson, I've been in great demand recently - those 12 hour shifts down at Cantley take a toll. To be honest I would prefer a good honest spooning to out-and-out willy wrangling at the moment.

Postponed...indefinitely ?

Unless someone steps in soon and clarifies their future, it could back-fire on us if the game goes ahead and folk turn up to potentially see Coventry for the last time or, the last time at the Ricoh.
