Stockport County

Relegated to the Blue Square North... I can remember going to County as massive underdogs in the FA Cup and Colin Cramb scoring.  How things have changed and according to this http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/10008018/Kidderminster-Harriers-match-suspended-after-Stockport-County-fan-invades-pitch-and-attacks-players.html it looks like my second team (Stalybridge) will have to hire a few stewards for next season!

It'll be fun when they come to Solihull Moors as well. Incidentally, the Moors became the first Conference North side to win at the Deva Stadium yesterday. They've had an outstanding season for a team that operates on a shoestring (crowds of about 250) and only stayed up on the last day of last season.

County were a second division side for several years too. Bloody hell. What on Earth went wrong? Their fans'll swamp half the grounds in that league surely? You'd think they ought to go unbeaten all season...

I used to live in Stocky for over 10 years and watched many a game at EP, however I never expected the club to tumble as far as they have down the leagues.  :(

My mate is a big Stockport fan and I'm afraid many of their woes are...surprise surprise...due to owners mismanagement...unpaid bills, star name managers (Hamann),trying to turn the ground into a hotel, not paying tax etc. Having been to many games with my mate I know their fans are amazing and always turn out in respectable numbers home and away. Expect some of the Blue Sq N teams to break their attendance records next season.

I have a vague memory of reading that we've played more matches against Stockport than any other oppo. Then again I could be writing rubbish.

I think that honour goes to Lincoln - at least for league matches

You might be thinking of the longest ever football match - played between Rovers and Stockport in 1946. Rovers Wiki quote below:

Doncaster Rovers were involved in the longest ever football match, against Stockport County at Edgeley Park on 30 March 1946. The match was the second in a Division Three (North) two-legged cup tie and, after 30 minutes of extra time the match was deadlocked at 2–2 (also the score in the first leg). After the referee had sought advice from the authorities, it was decided that the game would carry on until one team scored. However, after 203 minutes, and with darkness closing in, the game was finally stopped. Stories abound of fans leaving the game, going home for their tea, and coming back to watch the end of the game. The replay, at Doncaster, was won by Rovers 4–0, goals coming from Steven Bain, Billy Mortimer and a late double from Graeme Dunne.

Dutch- Tony Bluff's book has the scorers in the replay as Ralph Maddison (3) and Paul Todd. I don't recognise Messrs Bain, Mortimer and Dunne as Rovers players. They sound like a firm of estate agents, though!

Can anyone recall that bank holiday stockport v donny game in mid 1980s i think.

Some loons jumped into the packed rovers end and started to sing 'one man When to mow'

No bugger battered an eye lid untill at end of song This small mob broke into a 'C H E L S E A '

Then got kicked to fcuk for Their troubles

Turns out they was all  northern chelsea lads from stockport.

Funny olde game
