4,000 Leeds/Weds fans
« on May 15, 2013, 07:30:58 pm by Rovers-on-Thames »
Please please please can the club not give in to a little bit of added extra income and only let Weds/Leeds fans have the north stand for the home games next season. Does anyone agree with me on this point?

I still remember that miserable night when Leeds beat us 4 - 0. Only time I've ever left the ground early. But 4,000 of there lot singing between different stands is just too much to take. It was undoubtedly to their advantage that night, they made it like a home game and made it a mockery for rovers fans.

Don't forget the 1000 or so Leeds fans that were in our end

if we cant shift tickets ourselves then it makes perfect sense to shift them to away fans.

its called good business sense.

It will happen, it was the reason the East Stand was divided up in the first place.
We can't fill the place with our own fans, and we need the revenue.

In no way is it business sense. It's a short term buck.

It alienates the long term fan base by being run-amock in your own ground - it's tinpotification by your own administration. And no doubt we'll be scrapping out for relegation next season and have an extra 1,000 odd away fans potentially contributing to lost points is in no way 'sense'.

Don't agree. We've sometimes criticised the club for not maximising empty seats. They built the dividing wall on the East stand to give them more flexibility in accommodating fans - home and away, so it would be silly not to use it for the sake of 'home' pride.

We gave extra tickets to Blades fans and very nearly, we had 4000 of them going home disappointed having given us extra revenue in the process. That extra revenue can go towards an additional players wages for a loan spell etc.

Sure, we'd hope we wouldn't have to give them that extra capacity if we knew we'd sell home seats, but we're really good at leaving it to the last minute to buy up tickets.

So, if Leeds, Wednesday etc, can shift an extra 1000 tickets and we can't guarantee it, what do you do?

Wouldn't you have liked extra tickets at Brentford if we could have got them??
Of course it makes business sense. We aren't going to sell the seats ourselves, and like I said the club need the money. We would be outsung at home anyway, whether it be 400 or 4000 fans.

We can't afford not to unfortunately, would love out fans to sell it out but we all know we won't. We're punching above our weight in the championship so any extra revenue we can get we need to take advantage of. Just pisses me off when theres leeds fans in our end cheering and no stewards do anything about it.

A Rangers friend of mine used to buy a cheaper season ticket in the knowledge that when they played Celtic they would be moved to a more inferior seat in the Rangers end as all that area was given to Celtic. They didn't complain as it meant a full house and extra revenue for the club, As we are not big enough to sell out it makes sense and we are only looking at Leeds and possibly the Wendies?

And to be fair, Leeds didn't even sell out the extra allocation the last time they came.
Big club my arse.

Wasn't that result 0-3?

I don't mind extending the away end if we won't sell out our home allocations.  All the more motivation to beat the opposition in front of their travelling supporters.

To be honest, if this season is anything to go by, I'd be quite happy giving all the local clubs 6,000 tickets if they could fill them - we may fill the rest if we're lucky.
Reasons -
(1) It will feel like an away game (where do we perform best, home or away)
(2) It will generate all the extra revenue as discussed above
(3) It may even create a bit of 'ticket mania' if our own fans thought they may be struggling to get a ticket
Finally, it's about time we stopped moaning / dreaming about the Keepmoat atmosphere. As said by others, we can't fill the ground as it is and our home supporters generally don't know how to, or are just not willing to create an atmosphere. I sit in the South/West corner and you can count on two hands the people who are vocal in their support. As for the argument about a dedicated singing section - it's already there. This season there have been so many spare seats that we have all pretty much had our pick of where to sit (singing section or not) - still no recognisable improvement in atmosphere.
My comments above are a little tongue in cheek but, in general, I'll take a full ground every day of the week and don't really care how we do it - home fans, away fans, other ticketing initiatives

Nope. They returned tickets.
By chance I still have the game Sky plused, and there are probably 100 or so empty seats in the extra allocated section.

Our supporters have little problem creating an atmosphere at away games ergo all they have to do is sit/stand in the same area and do what they do away from home. SIMPLES. Safe standing will resolve this in the future as well as turnstile usage on a matchday.

Well it seems everyone is happy with 4,000 porkers and champions of Europe taking the piss at the Keepmoat. I'm not, but so be it.

According to away attendances that season they sold their allocation of 4,209.

Plenty must have not bothered turning up then. I thought the allocation was higher than that anyway.

I was sat right alongside the Blades fans at the KM game this year and the atmosphere was electric, and credit to them.  They took it on the chin for 90 mins and gave it back when they levelled.  Lots of aggression but when the whistle went there were plenty of smiles and thumbs up followung an exciting game with a 'proper' atmosphere

The last time Wednesday came in the league, they didn't sell out the original 3300.

On the subject of Leeds, will it still be £38 or whatever to get in there next season?

According to my l**ds supporting mate, they have reduced ticket pricing considerably since the new regime came in. I would hope that follows suit for away fans. Although I would still expect to be ripped off. It's modern footballs way isn't it?
