Goalkeeper issue

Hi guys.  Would like to hear what everyone thinks about our goalkeeping situation.  Here we are with just over three weeks to the start of the season and do not appear to have a first choice goalkeeper (or do we still have Sully) until we sign someone.  This is growing into an issue in my opinion as surely we need to get the guy in and playing with PD's preferred back four.  Looks at best they will have one friendly to do this before the start of the season. Would appreciate an update from the club.

Could the VSC flag this up with Mr Dickov immediately? He has clearly overlooked this issue. The last thing we need is to play 90 minutes against Blackpool with no goalkeeper. We could get beat 2 or 3 nil!

I'm sure I've seen quotes where dickov is saying he will be signing a goalkeeper

Ease up folks, of course we will have a GK for the start of the season. Who it is or when a signing will be announced is beyond me, but there will be one.

I've heard that most football fans brains turn to soggy bogroll at this time of year, so they don't think things threw enough. All this panicking about transfers 8 days in to the transfer window is daft. Get thee back onto football manager, that's real life too.

 I detect more than a hint of irony & sarcasm in this thread - I'm sure noone really believes we'll start against Blackpool with no GK!

I am sure we will have a goalkeeper but I would have preferred the 'chosen one' to have had more than one competitive game (Bradford) with the first choice defence.

It's gone 40 minutes since this was flagged up. I hope to Christ we've got someone in by now!

If not, our strikers are gonna be in for one hell of a surprise on the opening day when they find themselves up against an actual keeper, having trained for months against nothing but an empty goal. They won't have a mother-flipping clue what to do.

What? You really think we'll start on 3rd August with no goalie?..... I honestly thought that the majority of the posters were being less than serious but I'd better go find my worry beads and strongest vodka if it could be true!!... I mean, PD, BF, BH, JR & the rest must have forgotten!

Come on, get real, of course we'll have one, and if the betting is correct, a bloody good one at that! Have faith in what I believe is a top management team and be patient! And check the thread about Lewis Jeynes & get some perspective!

You're right, we're not in a pub team league, we're in one of the hardest, most highly professional leagues in the world. How many on here are qualified or well enough placed to criticise a process which, for all we know, could be nearly complete or at a critical point? I know I'm not, but I hope that PD, BF, BH, JR, etc.... are.

And you're also right that people being ironic or sarcastic might not help people becoming frustrated with the process. My take on life and stress is...can I do anything about it? Yes? Do it and do it well! No? Don't stress about it until you can do something about it. Can any of us do anything about this process? Not unless one of you is PD, BF, BH or JR in disguise - so don't stress, leave it to them to sort it out. It will be sorted, I've no doubt about that - whether we all agree with their decision is another matter - but it is their decision!

It's not giving new players a lot of time to get used to each other,but i'd rather we get 'The Right Players' rather than panic signings,i just hope this investment company is right,because if we are relying on them and it goes wrong,well you know what i'm saying,just because we did it last season,doesn't mean it should be done the same again,this league is far,far more competitive,though i do get the feeling some deals have already been done,but just not announced,just my opinion no inside info.

I think you're probably right on that last point Sammy. Most of what Dickov's done's been kept under the radar, and I'm sure with Flynn and his own contact book we'll have people lined up.
