Pints in our seats?
« on July 28, 2013, 12:08:49 am by colincramb »
It annoys me does this. Watched the rugby league semi earlier, all the fans there with beers in their seats having a great time. Why can't this be done in football? I know historically there has been problems but those days are, by in large, gone. Makes me annoyed that we continue to get branded as thugs.

Can't we petition for this? Like we have with safe standing? It would be great to enjoy a beer whilst cheering on sharp, wellens and the lads. Any chance? Thoughts?

Watch MLS here and we have beer in our seats, and they even come round selling beer... No problems at all.

It's an absolute disgrace that we are still treated like this, it's 2013 for gods sake, not the 1970s!

It won't happen this due to the small minority that will f**k it up, look at Millwall at Wembley all that game is remembered for is the fighting I can't remember what the score was.

You can't get hammered in the 90min you spend in your seats surely. You could have a dozen before you go in if you really wanted to get hammered.

And I think for many people that is the issue, you can spend all day boozing, show up at the match, have a few more pre kick off, a couple at half time and head off back to Donny after the match to spend the rest of your evening drinking before returning home without any real issues. However when drinking within view of the pitch its a deadly combination.

I seem to recall Ipswich challenged this last season, not sure if much was done however.

It's an issue the FSF raise on a regular basis, along with all the other football related legislation that treats football supporters as potential hooligans.

There has been progress made on this particular issue in recent years, last year the trade magazine FC Business started a campaign on this supported by one of the major brewers. Expect another few years before it gets removed from the statute book though.

This one is simple to fix, take a spare top with you, then out of site of the kiosk put it back on.  I do that at every away game I go to.

As for beer, I'm indifferent.  This is simply because I drive to the games as must do a sizable proportion of the attendance?  That said, maybe eventually we'll see an experiment with beer allowed in view of the match, in selected areas of the ground.

I don't get the argument that this would encourage hooliganism (like at the cup final) as the potential criminals who would be drunken hooligans would get w**kered before the game anyway, regardless of where they drink...

Here's an off the wall solution.  If they are worried about beer fuelled violence, just limit the beer in the ground to 1 pint per 45 mins half of footy.  Make the match ticket have 2 tear off sections, tokens if you like.  One has 1ST on it and one 2ND.  One has to be handed in when a pint is bought WHILST THE GAME IS IN PLAY.

Yeah, I get that a lot of people drive to games and can't have a drink but its about having the choice to do so for me. I went to the Yorkshire v Lancashire 20/20 the other week and I've never seen a place with as many pissed people!! The bars were allowing people to buy 4 pints at a time to take to their seats! Same with rugby and just about any other sport.

I was at swillsboro on wednesday for the friendly with rangers in the leppings lane end with the jocks. Many had bottles in their hand while watching the game.

Couple this with the fact that at least half a dozen flares were set off during the game and when I went to the toilets at half time it was like walking into the Icelandic ash cloud and not one steward or ejection or police video for evidence......bet its different in 6 weeks time if we behave like that.

It's never going to happen , it's been banned since 85 and never is that ban going to be lifted. Maybe only for private boxes but the ordinary fans have no chance. Every time it's mentioned the police and the dogooders dredge up the past , throw in hillsborough and it's shouted down . Ironically did you see the beer advert for the champions league final where the bloke travels all across the world to get to the final and settles down in his seat to watch game !

Isn't it ironic all these brewery company's interested in football and yet alcohol is blamed as the root cause of most of footballs ills , especially crowd behaviour .then pump millions to be associated with the game.  Tho it has to be said we are not the ones who the brewers are interested in , it's the sky generation who live for  supersundays and sky's coverage sat in the pub, betting on man yoo and co.

Easy solution is to down a tea/coffee or two, or find a mate who's doing that and swill out the cup and pour the beer in and take it to your seat. Not too civilised, but it works. Alternatively, take a green plastic bottle of water in, or a flask, and do the same

I saw someone take a nip from a hip flask at one freezing cold game at Huddersfield once.  They got lobbed out.

I also saw a lad get lobbed out at Leeds (the game when we went 2-1 up just after half time then lost heavily in the 2nd half).  He went for a pint just before HT, and as he was getting served the rovers scored.  He trotted halfway up the few stairs with the beer in his hand, so he could just about peek at the pitch to see who had scored, and the steward grabbed him and called the fuzz.  The lad hadnt even put the beer to his lips.
