UEFA have been cracking down (to an extent) on racist chanting, but they won't go any further than making CSKA play a game behind closed doors- or with a part of their stadium closed at least.

Even the russian bar tenders were standing with the chelsea lads as they was from another rival moscow team.

basic guttural territorial instinct. hunt or be hunted. stay of my patch, this is my turf. don't condone it, don't agree with it, don't fully understand it. that's what it is though.

many learned men (and women) have tried to understand and put words to, why men _ in particular, hunt in packs, act territorially and seek out the weak (in particular in relation to violence linked to football supporters)

you see similar animal behaviour all the time on documentaries presented by Attenborough and co. wolves and lions hunting in packs, dolphins in pods rounding up fish shoals to eat etc.

someone once said - we are the only species that has sex for pleasure. (whole different topic!) That is what sets us apart from all other species on the planet. im sure there are many other reasons, but this one sticks with me.
other than that we are not much different to any thing else mammalian on the planet (behavioural wise)

I had a mate who studied it for his degree and did a big dissitation on it. (football violence, not sex!)
