You are probably right about the ineffectiveness of petitions. I'm still not convinced that the FA is quite the bulwark against this kind of change that you suggest. For instance, I can't see Allam taking "No" for an answer and I suggest he will take this as far as he can. The MK Dons directors did the same and managed to get the result they wanted.

Again, I realise that we're talking about different governing bodies, but the Football League allowed Coventry's owners to move the club to a ground 35 miles away from the City without any consultation of supporters. I'd prefer to judge the governing bodies by their actions rather than their "rule book"- which seems pretty flexible anyway if you have enough money!

RB,

Allam won't have much choice really. If the decision goes against him he can't force anybody to do what he wants. A change of name has to go to the membership committee, if he wants to ignore them then Hull lose their membership of the FA. They could in effect carry on and only lose their participation in the FA cup, apart from the agreement that the PL and FL have which insists that all their clubs are full members.

Also, it's been a tough couple of years for the FA in regard to the DCMS enquiry and their relationship with the PL. I'm expecting them to try and flex their muscles here and give the supporters what they want.

The enquiry was from the CMS select committee, the DCMS is a separate entity because that is the Government's department (hence the D), which the Select Committee reports (initially) to, but its influence from the DCMS is minimal.

Apart from that your pretty much spot on!  :aok:

Hmmm. Did Hull support Rovers when we were on our knees? Don't seem to recall anything... Could be wrong.

Signing the petition as I personally don't agree with what the owner is trying to do.

Hull were pretty much on their arse at the same time as we were, a few rovers fans started going to watch Hull when it looked like we were going out of business, thankfully they have turned things round, but it was not Mohammad Alam that did this, it has been gradual. If changing your club name improved any thing then why havent Manure, Liverpool, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern, Leeds?

Don't kid yourself Lee about the lack of influence. The report back to the Minister means that the process will now be Government led, and our discussions have been with the relevant ministers and encouraging them to legislate, just as they promised they would.

I'm not doubting the influence, as someone who followed this closely I understand the situation. Just stating the inquiry was a CMS select committee inquiry, not DCMS.

Its common for many to put the "D" in front of the acronym when relating to an inquiry by that select committee when in actual fact the Department  is a function of Government whereas the Select Committee is a function of Parliament. I'm just an perfectionist (or at least I like to think I'm one)...

But as you have rightly pointed out the FA (along with the other authorities) have been heavily scrutinised by the initial CMS Select Committee in 2011 and the follow up report in 2012. In my personal opinion the initial responses and what we have seen from the authorities isn't enough and situations like this give the FA the opportunity to do right by the fans and the game in general, especially as 'foreign' ownership and their motives made up a large chunk of the initial inquiry.

My only issue with legislation is that an election is forthcoming and I do wonder whether or not the Government will feel this should be prioritised above other bills to push through before an general election. Sadly, its not exactly a priority for most of the electorate...

Don't doubt your reservations Lee, but for us we've already seen a change in attitude, not withstanding the funding question raised by the initial enquiry. It's the threat of legislation which seems to be driving that.

What would you put up with, Doncaster Dragons, Donny Donkeys?

Nar me neither, they'll always be Hull City to me. Seem to remember their fans joining in a pitch invasion at BV in the season we went out of the league, may be mistaken, old age yer know.

Man U, Liverpool, Leeds, Real Madrid and Bayern have all had name changes, although many years ago for each. Only Barcelona still have their original name.
