  • Despite Sharp's return the home crowd for Charlton (6,841) was lower than average (6,934).
  • The Millwall game (29th Dec) was an usually low home attendance (6,044) indicating the financial burden of Christmas/too many games over Christmas  may be a factor.
  • Directly after we lose a game (either home or away) our average home crowd is 6,923 and after we win or draw our average home crowd is actually lower at 6,751 (counter to what may be expected).

Important, but also mainly due to bigger away followings.

Does anyone else think that the reported attendance last night seems a little low?  It was absolutely packed out round where I sit, and that just isnt normal.

Copps

I love you like a brother, man!

RTR

Aye. I thought we were at 8.5-9k. Mind, I wasn't taking into account the barren wasteland that was the away end. We used to take that many down to the smoke when we were getting arseholed by TLO Hayes and Kingstonian.

Interesting stuff :)

23% is better than most clubs get as an increase going from League 1 to Championship, the average is less than 20%*. Let's hope we stay up and can build that fanbase further.

*from a stats point of view, clubs with a larger home following will benefit comparitively less from the increased away fans there is in the Championship.

The 23% increase on last season is very important.

Isn't it down on our last season in this division however, in a season which we were relegated without a fight?

Possibly. But budgets aren't based on what happened a couple of years ago.

So what's your conclusion Frosty?

PS: Good to see you back. I thought you'd been banned back in the Autumn. Looks like I was mis-informed.

I thought the attendance was much higher, the south stand looked  much fuller, from where I sit every week, in the east, RTR .
Reminds me of belle vue, I always thought there was a few thousand more in

In time, if the team has some results, the fans will come. In Romania we have a word "fani de carton", that means something like fans for results. Look at Steaua. When they had results and played really good in the perriod february 2013 - september 2013, they had like 45k-50k supporter at stadium. When they starting to lose and the game was not so good, they have only 10k-12k.

That figure is skewed by the fact that our big crowds came after a loss (Leeds, forest) and the fact that we haven't won many games. But there doesn't seem to be much of an effect on our crowds depending on the previous result. Long term form and the attraction of the opposition are more important.

So has the average attendance for home fans gone up or down based on either last seasons or the season before figures? And if by what %?

That to me would show what is happening with the fan base numbers

Average attendances gone up, thats the important info.

Not bothered how it went up, it has = more cash for my club.

This Sat will be a good marker providing weather ok. Expect more roll ups with families etc. An attractive opposition etc.

My conclusion is that our relegation from the Championship and the "experiment" had a damaging effect on our fan base.

We averaged higher attendances that season, and I think ultimately it has put people off attending. Coupled with the fact, as a whole since our home performances haven't been much to write home about.

However, if we stay up this season and manage to keep this squad together, it could be a good foundation to build from.

Our first season in Championship we averaged 11,300 or so. Ok there was a certain amount of novelty factor, but we've lost almost 25%?of that.
The club/board/CEO all appear to be making positive moves, I think we've seen the bottom of the barrel attendance wise this season and crowds will grow from now.

Since the first season in the Championship, we've gone through the longest recession in more than 130 years and seen a half-decade long suppression of wages. It stands to reason that some folk decide they have more important things to spend money on than football in those circumstances.

In the light of that, it's good to see the club freezing season ticket prices, and making some pretty big reductions for early-bird renewals.
