Slimneil's post reminded me of a few I picked up as a kid in the late 60's. Some from when they trained on the old aerodrome, some from waiting patiently for them to roll out of Doncaster United's social club, and the rest on the team coach returning from Darlington, Boxing Day 1969 (long story).

An old man writes - correct. Other great names included are - Brian Kelly, Alan Finney, Keith Lindsey, King Alick, John Wylie, Dennis Leigh, Graham Ricketts, Keith Kettleborough, Bobby Gilfillan, Jim Watton, Keith Mottershead, John Flowers, Stuart Robertson, John (Matt) Regan, John Haselden, Chris Rabjohn, Rod Johnson and Harold Wilcoxson. Some legendary Rovers players from the late 60's when we were twice crowned champions, (albeit the old Fourth Division both times).
We had a couple of seasons of real glory but still came nowhere near second-tier status - maybe some of the current moaners about our "predicament" should check out the years when we were considered one of football's "joke" teams.
Just as an example - probably our biggest rivals in those years were Darlington. Please look at the difference between the two clubs today and tell me where we went wrong.
Rant over. RTID. Rich the Rover
