Wizz Air flight times are awful - looking at going to Eastern Europe in June and Riga was one of the destinations on the potentials list so I was quite excited to see this, but not a Friday night flight arriving just before midnight... It is no wonder they are cheap when their times are so crap.

Not all the flight times are bad. Try Warsaw.

I'm off to Warsaw with work in a couple of weeks. I did consider Wizz back to Donny. They only do two flights a week and those leave Warsaw at 6am. No good I'm afraid. I'm having to fly to Heathrow and get the train back.

I don't want to go to Warsaw plus as BST said, the flight back is an awful time. Not exactly long weekend territory when you get there midday on the Friday and have to be at the airport by about 4am on the Monday morning.

I don't think most of the Wizz Air flights from DSA are aimed at the holiday travellers....

My advice if you choose to take it is DONT be put off by the Flight times

Reason 1 .... all the Airports in the Baltic Capitals are mere "stones throws" from the City Centres ... so yes you may get there at stupid O clock but 10 minutes later you are in your Hotel

Reason 2 ... I have been to Tallinn Vilnius (from Donny) and last Summer Riga and believe me they are fantastic Cities each and every one of them
They all have something special going on and I would really like to revisit them all - but if I could only visit one I would probably say Vilnius would be the one

Reason 1 ... it is simply fantastic Architecture wise

Reason 2 ... and most importantly ... outside the Cathedral is a commemorative stone and the folk lore is if you stand on it and make a wish it ALWAYS comes true. I was there just after we were relegated the Season before last and before a ball was kicked last Season ... I duly stood on the spot and made a wish and Mrs DW said what did you wish for and I said cant tell you it wont come true

And though I did not think of it again until we were Promoted I suddenly remembered and so its down to me 50% with a bit of help from Trotta and a magic stone in Vilnius ... so get there SOON

The flight times only put me off using DSA, not the places I want to visit! I want to visit all the places you have suggested!

The Baltic cities are certainly on my list.

Can't say I'm counting down the seconds to going to Warsaw mind. It is one of the grimmest places I've ever visited. Hardly their fault. The city was destroyed by both the Nazis and the Soviets during WWII. They are a particularly unfortunate people to have been trapped between those two hammers. Apparently something like 95% of all the pre-war buildings in Warsaw were destroyed during WWII. And the re-building was in the finest Stalinist brutalist style. This is the architectural highlight...

They aren't - as the tourist marketing in South Yorkshire is tiny.

That may be Stalinist but it certainly ain't Brutalist, more in the Soviet Classicist or Gothic style.

This is a bit of Warsaw brutalism

Yep. Agreed. It's the rest of the city that's just slabs of concrete.

Who would have thought Doncaster & South Yorkshire would be such a hot bed for Eastern European Holiday Makers.........

We might as well twin Doncaster with the Entirity of Eastern Europe, shame the only place in Eastern Europe that is worth visiting more than once is Budapest and as yet no flights, so its definately not a tourism thing for our benefit!

I was actually naive enough to think that Doncaster,s own airport would benefit Doncaster people, great airport cant fault it just doesn't fly anywhere and where it does its not at a reasonable time or cost.

The link road, just seems a white elephant unless we get some better destinations and flight times, it will just help the huge population around Auckley get on the motorway quicker.

Hi KM

I would like to comment on your Post in so far as the statement Budapest is the only place worth visiting twice (I have been there 3 times) but there is also Prague and several other places in EE worth more that one visit. Riga and Tallinn are just superb

Some of them ARE available from Donny and include Krakow (3 visits) and also Vilnius Capital of course of Lithuania. I have been there just once but would go again in a flash as it is quite superb

The Wizz air Flights are as you ironically suggested Buses to take people to and from their homes in Poland Lithuania and now Romania and thankfully these will keep DSA afloat until such a time that a worthwhile recovery comes along and we get more flights to more of the places people want to go (Holiday places) at a realistic price.

At the moment it is a catch 22 with not many people travelling to even Alicante so Ryanair axed that and Thomson flying to (say) Tenerife but it costing a family of four £500 or more for the same holiday to there from Manchester

The only way then will be UP no pun intended !
