Think I will give this one a miss along with the fowls game - do I really want to put up with the local rivals taking the pi$$ out of our relegation?

Weird isn't it... 13 months ago there was a 2 division gap between us and Rotherham... now we're entertaining the Championship big boys as a glamour pre-season attraction  :ermm:

Have to agree with that, I'm working for the Owls game, and away for the day for the Millers. Time was, I'd have moved heaven and earth to go to those two games, but not bothered at all about missing them now.

I know where your coming from , but it's more like 25 months since there was 2 divisions between us , surely.
Last season we were in League 1 while they were in League 2.

Well it's not exactly a "glamour preseason attraction" is it now...

Really?  I am more concerned about our club, than the relative success (or not) of our neighbours and rivals.  May have been different if we had played Rotherham for promotion/relegation, but the 3rd bottom side has not taken part in the play offs for many years now.  Used to be that way.

£10 - Adults
£5 - Kids

Good pricing that I think! Any news on whether we'll be playing a premier league side this ore-season?

Depends what you want from a friendly... Leicester would be a good shout if you are hung up on sentiment and want a couple of thousand people in the ground. If you want to make some £££££ and have a full stadium and potentially people coming back again, it has to be far bigger draw than Leciester.

We've played a fair amount of prem and ex-prem teams in competitive fixtures in recent years, so the novelty of that is no longer such?

Would I turn up to watch us play Man Utd, Chelsea etc in a pre-season friendly?  Hell no, I have some paint drying that needs watching.

I think part of my reasoning is that these days, we see the Prem big names several times each week on TV, so no big thrill to see them here in a non-competitive fixture.

I just hope we don't do a Bournemouth and grab a fixture against a really big top world side then charge fans £60 to watch...

Hull City.

Both a Premier league side and a local rival and we haven't played them for a little while. That might draw a decent attendance.

Long overdue to play Liverpool since we haven't played them in any sort of fixture since 1974. Also haven't played Chelsea since a friendly in 1984. All the other 'big guns' we've played in the last decade or so.

Interesting date for that Rotherham fixture.

11 years ago to the day,  we played Rotherham in a preseason friendly as a newly promoted Division 3 side. It was the day my twin sons were born. We won 2-0. We then went on to win Division 3 and the rest is history....

Another 'I feel old' post. I was at that game. I think that was the time the Town End was being resurrected. I think I have some crappy old mobile photos from that game somewhere. Seems a lot less than 11 years ago!

Let's hope it's a sign Rob!

I was in my 1st year of uni 11 years ago - good times.

I also remember that one. I think I'd just finished my gcse's. My mate had driven us to the game and his car got smashed in during the game so remember it well.

Oh yes. That Chelsea friendly. Chelsea had just signing the Cup Winners Cup winner Doug Rougvie from Aberdeen. A granitic, Viking-esque full back. A destroyer of men.

We had just signed an unheard of wee slip of a lad from Partick Thistle by the name of John Buckley.

By the end of 90 mins, Rougvie must have known the existential angst of Wile E Coyote. Despite all his nefarious tactics, he never got within sniffing distance of Buckley.

Remember it well BST. Ended in a 1-1 draw, decent game as I recall.
