Operating a "release clause" doesn't make them a free agent.  They're still contracted to the club, but the club won't make it difficult to leave should another show interest.

He should still turn up for work though, until he starts work for another employer, his pay should be suspended and he should be subject to a disciplinary

I don't disagree, just tired of seeing the words "release clause" and "free agent" in the same sentence.

Maybe what we are seeing is that PD has poor man-management skills? i.e. It is either my way or the highway approach.

The way I see it, Quinn has activated his release clause, but until he signs for another club he's contracted to us, and as such he should be training with the club, he's in breach of his contract, so we're not obliged to pay him, I'd make him sweat and hold onto his registration, he's treating the club with contempt, don't make anything for him easy now!
