Happy Hour over at Brammall Lane

Lifelong fan Paul Heaton has now distanced himself from the club over Evans training with them. What muppet brought him back. Just shows that some clubs are run far worse than ours

Never was much of a Housemartins or Beautiful South fan but Donny Rovers would give an arm for patrons in the same league as Paul Heaton. The reason his resignation is significant is because he was a patron, an ambassador and supporter of the club. He's withdrawn that patronage, as is his choice, because he no longer wants to be associated with an organisation that is directly involved with, and by association, supporting a convicted rapist.
Fair do's Paul.

What with the dire publicity, the loss of sponsors and all the damage to the brand, it can't make financial sense to bring this player back into Sheffield United.

They really ought to have distanced themselves from it long ago.

Still, apparently they're Sheffield United and the do what they want...

P'raps they need Sheepskin Stu over there to 'enlighten' them with his sexist 'jokes' & comments on how best to 'take advantage' of a woman.

if mr heaton had taken the time to read the official court summary of evans trial he may be having a rethink about his decision.inapproprriate behaviour yes rape no chance, the sweet little innocent girl was not only drunk she had also been on drugs earlier in the evening.expert witness concluded she was lying when she supposedly lost her memory of the evening.the judge has been heaverly critisised since for adding his own interpritation of events when addressing the jury not evidence.i am more certain now that evans will win his appeal and placed my money accordingly, unfortunatley the bookies think same odds crap

acko you may perhaps be correct about the evidence etc but this is down to the legal system to sort out, not you, and not me.

Until Evans clears his name he'll have the stigma of a rape conviction, however fair or not that is.  Until that time, Heaton, Ennis-Hill etc will disassociate themselves from Sheff Utd.

Does it say anywhere in the court transcripts that she agreed to have sex with Evans? If not, it's you who needs to have a rethink about what constitutes rape.

Exactly, pity the girls who cross your path acko. Daft and dangerous lad you certainly are if you think this scumbag deserves your support.
Clearly she didn't give her consent either wittingly or unwittingly, just because a lass is pissed/drugged up doesn't give all and sundry permission to have sex with her surely ?
Why do you sit and plough through court transcripts, what's your angle or agenda here....?

So what's more important to you?

Seeing a potentially innocent man getting his good name back from a wrong conviction?  Seeing a rape victim being protected by the conviction being upheld? Seeing justice being correctly served either way?

Or making a quick buck by betting on the outcome????

Bet on the football by all means but betting on the outcome of the appeal for a convicted rapist???  What have we come to eh?

I find it abhorrent that the bookies are even offering odds on such a case.

He is free to apply his trade, but potential employers are also free to refuse to take him on, on the grounds of his unspent conviction.  Both those circumstances are are within the law.

He's got an application in for some formal review of his case. If this decides that actually the conviction was dodgy, what happens then? Lot of folk have taken some fairly strong positions.

If the review concluded it was rock solid then if he wants any hope of playing professional football again then he needs to apologise, accept the result and start from the bottom of the pyramid and work upwards.

Change the law to what?

And nobody's stopping him from plying his trade, anyone is free to sign him if they want to.
