1good memory for me was before decimalisation , at Grimsby , night game it was, give burger man 10 bob note and got change for a tener , now all of you that we're too young they we're the same couloir ,bad point had to travel home with coach windows smashed in.love those memory's
Silkscarves - now you're talking. I had a white one with red lettering. Beautiful it was. It rained one day and was ruined. Rosebud! It's my club, it's my town, it's me. Good or bad, high or low, it is what it is. I don't live in Donny any more but I'm born and bred and fiercely proud of my town and my club and real fans of other clubs always respect that. The red and white hoops are special, so glad we stuck with them rather than anonymous combinations of red and/or white that we had for donkeys years. The thing I really miss about BV though, and it's taken me years to put my finger on it, is the night sky. I can't see much of the sky at a night game at the Lakeside Stadium (sponsored by someone or other). At BV it made a night game feel really special. Also the terraces and the areas around the ground were actually dark. Nowadays you can see everything so there's no mystery! I miss the 1970s power cuts an' all (candles round the wireless).
Especially when you are an exile and people just can't understand it.There is usually far more enjoyment talking to fans of lower league clubs because you share the same experiences and disappointments. The armchair fans of big clubs really get up my nose.
Positives only! Forget the disliking of the board, the manager, the Keepmoat, the catering, the VSC, each other etc, and say what we actually like about the club!OK, I'll start.........em......I like the proud feeling I get when the Red and White hoops walk onto the pitch to the sound of the Wild Rover.
FILO are u n old pit man then ? N for the rest of u why did you hide your colours ?
Another thing about following the Rovers is that even on a good run you are half expecting the rug to be pulled from under you. This stops most fans from bragging too much and expecting to win every game. After 50 odd years there can't be a Rovers related jibe or insult that I haven't heard. This means that although hurting on the inside rival fans can't make it any worse. I've worked with countless Bradford City, Leeds and Man U fans since I left Donny and once they realise that you don't bite they respect you and your views. They also then look for your results as well. Like it or not we are all ambassadors for our club, let's show others club's fans how it should be done.

Absolutely spot on Idle and I couldn't have put it better myself. Like you, I've lived outside of Donny for many more years than I lived inside (I'm not far from you) but my club has always kept my Donny roots alive. So to bring this thread totally up to date, what I love about Rovers is driving to Oldham (almost a home game for me) and my team lifting me from the depths of despair to the heights of joy within 15 glorious minutes.Love this club!
