Yeah, but some folk seem determined to pin the blame on someone who is legally regarded as a child (and we do need to remember that no-one's been charged of an offence and the specifics have not come to light).

IF this is what happened:

1. The parents utterly failed to look after their child.
2. The bouncers failed to do their job properly.
3. The club failed to do its job, both in terms of providing an adult environment in which people can have a few beers and it failed to protect a minor.

Nevermind all this nonsense about predators; the above is to blame IF this is what happened. There's absolutely no wiggle room on this.

glad you responded jenny interested to hear womens perspective,what I will say I had young daughters(grown up now)when they went out I did ask were they was going but I didn't follow them and I beleaved what they told me,if I thought they were overdressed to make them look decidedly older I would certainly have said so but you cant put a chain round their knecks

Thing is, I have repeatedly pointed out where the failings are/might have been (parents/door people/club) and I think it's pretty on the nose. We also have a pretty good system in place when it comes to selling alcohol in shops and off licenses, which goes something along the lines of 'prove you're the age you say you are. If we're not 100% certain/happy (for whatever reason), we still won't sell it to you.' And it works because the penalties for getting it wrong are steep. Clubs work on the basis of 'close enough' which - I would argue - isn't good enough.

on that point lipsy a pub or club don't need a reason to refuse to serve or allow admission even if you look 50 they have the right to refuse without reason,could cause problems regarding race,but if in doubt don't allow

Whilst I don't disagree if you limit it to how someone looks, I do disagree when you take into account having a conversation with these youngsters. I assume people do still have a conversation before jumping into bed? 5 minutes chat would show their age very easily. And anyway, Acko, it's very counter cultural these days to suggest some girls may fall victim to predators encouraged by how they present themselves.

Bob, with all due respect I think your opinion of a modern 15yo is a generation out of date. There are plenty out on a Saturday night that you wouldn't believe we're under 18, that's looks and attitude.

How on earth can you differentiate between a 15 and a 16 year old? The difficulty to make a distinction between them is the very reason why it is dangerous territory.

You're probably right Gaz..... It's been a while since I chatted up a 15, 16 or even 18 year old. Still think a conversation would allow a fairly good estimate to be made - but maybe I really am light years behind the times? Does yoof converse before copulation these days?
