Billy Paynter

Carlisle United's Billy Paynter and Gary Dicker have sought representation from the Professional Footballers' Association to appeal a club fine.

BBC Radio Cumbria has learned the pair refused to do extra training sessions put on for those not in the first team.

Midfielder Dicker, 28, has not featured for 13 weeks and 30-year-old striker Paynter last played in early December.

Manager Keith Curle said the players were appealing the fine, but that he could not comment on 'internal issues'.

To challenge a club fine, players appeal to the Football Association and, where applicable, the Football League or Premier League.

A spokesperson for the PFA has confirmed to BBC Sport that they are now assisting the players in question with their case.

The incident comes as an unwelcome distraction for Carlisle, who lie 21st in League Two after losing to Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday.
